Last Thursday I started feeling pain in one of my teeth. Since then, it has developed into a full-blown infection. Luckily, my dentist was able to see me this morning 800 on a Saturday. Prognosis is that I am on an antibiotic regimen and that it should fix it within a few days.
After that I will get a root canal to remove the remaining nerve. Meanwhile, I cannot sleep or eat. I have been using Tylenol and Ibuprofen pretty aggressively and this makes me comfortable for a few hours at a time. The left side of my face is swollen from the infection.
Hopefully, the antibiotics clear it within a couple of days. Tooth ache is no picnic.

(8,232 posts)After 20 minutes of splashing water everywhere on the bed, we gave up. I think they make packs that you can use for that purpose. You activate them and a chemical inside the pack warms up and produce heat. She is going to go get some at the store.

Unless of course you don't like pudding.

I had a root canal. It wasn't nearly as bad as the many oral surgeries I've had over the years. Pudding was always my go-to food/treat. I was especially fond of my mom's homemade tapioca. Good luck with the dental issues!

(8,232 posts)My lovely wife just left the house to go get apple sauce, milk, oats, pudding , yogurts and potatoes (to make mashed potatoes).
I hope I will be back to normal in a couple of days once the antibiotics clear the infection.

(8,232 posts)Done by a endodontist specializing in only that. It was completely painless. They had a protocol to properly numb you, do the work and then post-surgery care. I am not sure why people dread root canals.

(21,589 posts)There's a Greek cookie that you make in a cone shape, and pop a clove in at the top.
I happen to not like cloves, but when we'd make them w my Greek immigrant grandma - I'd get extra yucked out about the cloves. ???
Turned out I finally remembered my sort of gruff dentist as a kid - used to put clove oil on my gums, tooth.
Aha! No wonder I felt unease, bad memories!

(4,466 posts)There is a special antibiotic that targets tooth infections. Obviously a dentist is the best choice but in a jam telehealth can help if your insurance offers it.
