I've been writing "not at this address" on mail for my ex for over 6 months, putting it back into the box with the red flag up...
Well, yesterday I just wasn't in the mood for finding a goddamn pen and honestly, why don't they STOP delivering mail for her here? I think it would be obvious by 6+ months, and we have a small rural town with a carrier I know by name and everything!
Anyway, I ripped her fucking letter (bank statement) in half yesterday and shoved it back in the box with the flag up. It may be illegal, but the divorce is final this week and I was NOT in the mood yesterday...
I just heard hom stop in front of the house. Heard him say out loud "ug, REALLY?!" and drive off a little faster agressively than usual.
oops. Sorry dude. I'm just OVER her bullshit!
BTW - I get to testify finally...June 13th. (friday the 13th...fitting!)

(74,313 posts)I've been cutting out my name/address and printing "REFUSED RETURN TO SENDER" in blue marker, and putting it in the post office mail box. I've wondered whether they would track me, although seems like we can refuse delivery, no?

(74,313 posts)They get the names/addresses from the public information voter registrations, so the nonspecific "or resident" wouldn't be applicable.

(7,619 posts)and it included "or resident" on the label. The mailman told that because of that, it wasn't improperly delivered, and therefore could not be returned to sender. I guess it's a way to avoid having bulk junk mail sent back.
It seems to me that if the mail doesn't include that, and it's not to your name, you should be able to send it back. But honestly, I am not sure what the specific USPS rules and policies are.

(36 posts)If I may respond, unless a change of address is entered, the mail with the known names of the addressees will still be delivered.
Honestly, just because you say they dont live there doesnt mean its a fact. Thats where the Change of Address makes it a fact.
Not trying to be rude to you. Youre just handling it wrong and youre making yourself mad.

(15,144 posts)I KNOW the law...It's just annoying and I needed to vent. But yeah...wish I could make a change of address FOR her. She's in a shelter/transitional living down in Placerville somewhere. Got a restraining Order and she even has an ankle bracelet to keep her from coming here... she tried to literally kill me in October.
I just can't wait till the trial is over and I can then forward all her mail to the JAIL!

(23,768 posts)Try collecting all of her mail that gets delivered. Put it all in a box and give it to the judge on the day you testify. If there's a restraining order, tell them that you feel you're being harassed.
Alternatively, just throw it away or shred it. No evidence.

(11,076 posts)Then at least the senders might realize they're wasting their postage sending it to your address, and either look for her elsewhere or give up.
