(13,023 posts)If I could get them in the Los Angeles area, boiled/salted peanuts would be #2.

(158 posts)You are right, the yellow chips are made from plantains that are less ripe--I meant greener (less ripe) plantains, not that the chips themselves are green. I just meant to differentiate them from the ripe plantain chips, which are a bit harder to find in the US, but are probably my favorite.

(26,856 posts)Oh, i knew they weren't green chips.
But then what do the yellow plantain chips look like? Darker yellow? Like ocher.
I've boiled green plantains waaay back for annoying stomach problem. Got rid of it, never returned.
Fried the yellow ones, but don't really like frying stuff so just a few times. I happily pay others to fry foods!
My favorite thing was when I was gifted a trip to Puerto Rico (near San Juan) I made sure I got plantain chips from a home source!
It's like the time [my second gifted trip decades later] visiting my aunt & uncle & cousins in a small Switzerland village we went to their friend's house [and I never had] for cheese fondue; a national dish!

(1,265 posts)That's #1, always. Chip and dip a close 2nd. But let me add my voice to LoisB on the boiled peanuts. A little slice of snack heaven, if you can find them. An old boyfriend's family in SC would make them fresh and let me tell you, while I don't miss him, I miss those right off the stove - I was a boiled peanut convert from the get-go.

(1,096 posts)It's dangerous for me to have them in the house, as I'll eat them all.
More often, I actually have nuts, cheese, olives, and hard sausage.
