Thankfully, you're safe and survived the 90 mph hurricane force winds! It must have been frightening.

I've had 9 cars in my life. I've enjoyed each of them and always kept them clean and held to their service schedules so they all lasted a long time.

My current favorite is the one I have now. It's a 2021 Subaru Crosstrek (white with a black leather interior) with all the computers, bells and whistles. I bought it a couple of years ago second-hand. It's remarkably comfortable, has all-wheel drive (for the mountains) and the stereo is superior. It gets around 34-37 mpg.

Respectfully, I've never been into Jeeps. They're very cool but they're too loud for my taste. Still, I know they're excellent vehicles.

Happy May Day!

in babyshit brown. Not really my favorite car but it was my first and therefore most memorable. I bought it used and right away put a Who bumper sticker on it and installed a good stereo and speakers. My friends and I called it the Who Mobile.

My best car, and one I had for 21 years, was my 2002 Toyota Corolla. It was reliable and relatively inexpensive. I gave it to my son when I got my new car this last fall.

I like to keep my cars a good long while, so long as they are reliable and run well. I never felt the need to get a new one every few years or show off my financial prowess with a luxury car.

I really did love my '63 Corvair, bright red convertible. Loved driving it up and down the California coast! And in Colorado, it did great in snow, never had to put snow tires or chains on it.

Coming in second, my '72 VW bug (only brand-new car I ever owned).

In third, '64 GTO, birthday gift from fiancé who was way more into muscle cars than I was; it was stolen and wrecked before I was able to get into too much trouble with it.

Thu May 1, 2025, 08:15 PM

I started with a Saab 9000 Turbo, which was a great car. Drove it until it was totaled in an accident that would have killed anyone in anything else besides maybe a Volvo. They were super safe. After that I started buying Saab 9000 Aeros, the high performance version of the 9000. I got them used from all over the country. All the 9000s had great geometry and terrific handling. The Aero was incredibly quick Plus they were hatchbacks so you could stick a chest of drawers in there. Great engineering, great manufacturing, super reliable. Also super comfortable with incredible leg room in the back seat. Then Chrysler bought them and destroyed a great brand. If you can find one, buy it. There are enthusiast shops that can keep them on the road where they eat similarly equipped BMWs and Audis.

I bought it as a street car and quickly turned it into a road racing vehicle (still streetable).

It was almost unbeatable from 0 - 45 mph. I beat corvettes, mopars, hot-rods and almost everything I went against.

1275 cubic centimeters is approximately 77 cubic inches. In stock form it developed about 75 horsepower and 82 ft-lbs of torque.

The biggest advantage was the gearing driving 10 inch wheels, the fact it was front wheel drive, and a curb weight of less than 1300 pounds.

If you aren't familiar with these incredible vehicles, do some research and then watch the original movie "The Italian Job" from 1969.

It is without a doubt the most fun and exciting vehicle I have ever driven!

The insurance people told me it cost the same insure as a Chevy Nova. 4 door sedan, 6 cylinder engine, Weber induction and three carburetors. And the fact that it will do 140MPH doesn't dampen your ardor in any way? Apparently not.

Manual transmission. Bought it in 1998 from a private party when we were living in Lincoln, NE. My favorite memory of driving that car was at Christmas a year or two later. There was a street near our neighborhood where every house was lit for Christmas and speakers were set up playing Christmas music blasting from the median . We all ( my husband and our two sons) bundled up, put the top down, and I drove us up and down the street, as though we were having a sleigh ride. It was magical.
When we moved in 2000 from Lincoln to Chapel Hill, NC, I drove that car, with my oldest son riding shot gun and our two cats, Mouse and Simba, in their carriers on a mat in the back seat, following my husband, who was driving his Ford Explorer, with our youngest son riding shot gun and our dog, Tanya, in the back seat.

I taught my oldest son to drive in that car. We used to go down to the University Mall parking lot on a Sunday morning to let him practice getting used to shifting gears before I would let him drive on the streets.
He--at 38-- still drives a manual transmission and he races autocross for fun.
I loved that car!

On an old Willys Jeep my dad used for getting around his lemon orchard in the '60's in Southern California. Up and down the rows of trees and on our long driveway. When I got my learner's permit, my dad would occasionally let me drive it when he'd go to the village to pick up mail from the Post Office. I drove nothing but manual transmission cars for years--including a brand new Jeep Cherokee that we bought in 1988 which we drove with a not quite 2 year old in his car seat when we moved from L. A. to St. Joseph, MO. That time, the dog flew and I picked her up from the airport after we'd moved into our house!
