Israel has committed genocide in Gaza, UN commission of inquiry says

(snip)

A new report says there are reasonable grounds to conclude that four of the five genocidal acts defined under international law have been carried out since the start of the war with Hamas in 2023: killing members of a group, causing them serious bodily and mental harm, deliberately inflicting conditions calculated to destroy the group, and preventing births.

It cites statements by Israeli leaders, and the pattern of conduct by Israeli forces, as evidence of genocidal intent.

The commission said its latest report was "the strongest and most authoritative UN finding to date" on the war. However, it does not officially speak for the UN.

The 72-page document alleges that Israeli authorities and Israeli security forces have committed and are continuing to commit four of the five acts of genocide defined under the 1948 Genocide Convention against a national, ethnic, racial or religious group - in this case, Palestinians in Gaza:

Refugees, unhoused, and innocent civilians in war zones from Syria to Yemen, from Sudan to Nigeria, from Ukraine to Myanmar, are being evacuated and relocated to neighboring and to distant countries as the UNHCR has done for decades. Nevermind that Egypt is violating the refugee convention by not only failing to create temporary shelter in the Sinai for Gazan civilians, but has instead built a larger and more unpassable fence on their border with Gaza.

If the UN is declaring a genocide in Gaza, then one would think their top priority would be to move Gazans to safety. Since Hamas won’t let civilians in the 400 miles of tunnels and subterranean caverns that exist throughout Gaza, the world appears to be confused as to its priorities. In any other conflict the world would take in Gazan refugees from their tiny “open air prison” where they are sitting ducks for Israel’s intentional killing of them (since genocide definitionally requires intent), but in this instance, it would seem they would rather sacrifice Gazan lives in order to make Israel look more evil.

The UN and the world are being absolute hypocrites leaving innocent civilians in harm’s way of what they themselves are calling a genocide.
