Prosecutor in Epstein case sues Trump justice department over abrupt firing

Maurene Comey alleges firing was retaliation against father, former FBI director James Comey

Maurene Comey, a federal prosecutor involved in cases against Jeffrey Epstein and his accomplice Ghislaine Maxwell and led the recent case against Sean “Diddy” Combs, filed a lawsuit on Monday challenging her abrupt termination as politically motivated retaliation against her father, former FBI director James Comey.

Just three months before her termination, the 35-year-old prosecutor received a glowing review from the same attorney who would later deliver news of her firing, the lawsuit alleges.

The lawsuit seeks her reinstatement, back pay, and a declaration that her termination violated the constitution.

Her removal came after a sustained pressure campaign by Laura Loomer, a far-right activist and Trump administration whisperer with clear influence over personnel and policy decisions. In May, Loomer posted to her 1.7 million X followers calling for the firing of James Comey’s “liberal daughter”.

The fact that she waited to file this suit makes me think she has an ace up her sleeve. Prosecutors dont bring cases without evidence.

Good luck, diaper don.

I know these aren't related in any way, but once Ms. Comey saw Ms. Cook having some success, she probably decided that it was worth a try. And I agree with you, no prosecutor would never take it this far if they didn't have the killshot already in their back pocket.

Former FBI Director James Comey’s daughter, who has prosecuted Epstein and other high-profile figures, says she was given no explanation for her firing.

Maurene Comey is suing the Trump administration over her firing as a federal prosecutor in New York, calling the move a “politically motivated” one that “upends bedrock principles of our democracy and justice system.”

In a complaint filed Monday, she says the government gave her no explanation for her abrupt firing in July. Her attorneys argue that “there is no legitimate explanation” but rather that she was fired “because her father is former FBI Director James B. Comey, or because of her perceived political affiliation and beliefs, or both.”.....

The complaint recounts that Comey’s firing came after a call from Loomer, a Trump ally who does not work for the government, to fire the prosecutor for being the daughter of James Comey, whom Trump fired from the FBI in his first term and who has criticized Trump since then. The complaint says that Maurene Comey asked the head of the U.S. attorney’s office for the Southern District of New York, Jay Clayton, about the basis for her termination and that he “responded, in sum and substance: ‘All I can say is it came from Washington. I can’t tell you anything else.’”.....

Comey’s lawsuit follows a recent one from fired FBI officials alleging lawless terminations, as the Trump administration continues to attempt to fire officials to consolidate the president’s power and apparently exact revenge. The administration will have an opportunity to respond to Comey’s complaint in court.
