Judge orders E. Jean Carroll be paid $5M in damages from Trump verdict

Source: cnbc

A New York federal judge on Wednesday ordered that E. Jean Carroll be paid $5 million plus interest for damages from a verdict holding President Donald Trump civilly liable for sexually abusing and defaming the writer.

The order came hours after Trump’s lawyers, in a late Tuesday night court filing, urged Judge Lewis Kaplan not to disburse nearly $5.8 million to Carroll to satisfy the May 2023 jury verdict.

Survived domestic abuse, which is now referred to as IPV, intimate partner violence, has I high likelihood of having seen them.

The power and control wheel came first. Some years later, the equality wheel was created as a companion.

https://www.theduluthmodel.org/
Wheels
Over several months, we convened focus groups of women who had been battered. We listened to heart-wrenching stories of violence, terror, and survival. After listening to these stories and asking questions, we documented the most common abusive behaviors or tactics that were used against these women. The tactics chosen for the wheel were those that were most universally experienced by battered women.
...
Why was the Power and Control Wheel created?
In 1984, staff at the Domestic Abuse Intervention Project (DAIP) began developing curricula for groups for men who batter and victims of domestic violence. We wanted a way to describe battering for victims, offenders, practitioners in the criminal justice system and the general public. Over several months, we convened focus groups of women who had been battered. We listened to heart-wrenching stories of violence, terror and survival. After listening to these stories and asking questions, we documented the most common abusive behaviors or tactics that were used against these women. The tactics chosen for the wheel were those that were most universally experienced by battered women.

Why is it called the Power and Control Wheel?
Battering is one form of domestic or intimate partner violence. It is characterized by the pattern of actions that an individual uses to intentionally control or dominate his intimate partner. That is why the words “power and control” are in the center of the wheel. A batterer systematically uses threats, intimidation, and coercion to instill fear in his partner. These behaviors are the spokes of the wheel. Physical and sexual violence holds it all together—this violence is the rim of the wheel.

Why was the Equality Wheel created?
The Equality Wheel was developed not to describe equality per se, but to describe the changes needed for men who batter to move from being abusive to non-violent partnership. For example, the “emotional abuse” segment on the Power and Control Wheel is contrasted with the “respect” segment on the Equality Wheel. So the wheels can be used together as a way to identify and explore abuse, then encourage non-violent change.

As a man who grew up with sisters and a loving mother, I have trouble understanding the mindset of these horrible guys. Not to say that I’m perfect, but there are some boundaries that are just so ingrained I would never consider crossing them.

Non-violent communication is also hugely important and something that should be taught, especially to those of us whose innate privilege can so easily be used as justification for abusive behavior.

would be either through the submission of a joint filing stipulating to the release of the funds OR by means of a motion. Since Trump unsurprisingly refused to stipulate to the satisfaction of the condition, Carroll filed a motion, the judge gave Trump an opportunity to respond, and after Trump responded, the judge granted Carroll's motion and ordered the funds released.

The Judge ordered the payment. The payment can move forward and then Lardass can try and claw it back. There is no new information in the appeal, so it should be rejected out of hand. It could even be a two word ruling: Appeal denied. But we'll see. Maybe Lardass will try to have ICE deport Carroll.

56. because under the terms of the agreement, the procedure for releasing the money is as follows:
Thu Jul 9, 2026, 03:06 PM

If the condition for releasing the funds -- denial of certiorari by the SCOTUS -- is satisfied, the agreement provides as follows:

9. Collection by Plaintiff of the funds held by the Court may be accomplished by
means of a motion or a stipulation and order,
with notice served on the Clerk of this Court. Any
funds remaining, inclusive of any interest earned on such funds less any fees, after paying out all
moneys owed by Defendant to Plaintiff under the terms of the Judgment, as may be modified on
appeal or court order, shall be paid to Defendant.

https://storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.uscourts.nysd.590045/gov.uscourts.nysd.590045.210.0.pdf

Since Trump wouldn't agree to a stipulation to release the funds, Carroll filed a motion. The court gave Trump an opportunity respond to the motion and the day after Trump filed that response, the Judge granted Carroll's motion.

Judge orders release of the $5.8 million payment that Trump owed E Jean Carroll

Story by Dareh Gregorian • 23m •

https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/judge-orders-release-of-the-5-8-million-payment-that-trump-owed-e-jean-carroll/ar-AA27uM9T?ocid=winp1taskbar&cvid=c4e1bfa275a54b28af6bdec0fe0487d7&cvpid=6a4e95799f014751b4b6183b37262850

A federal judge ruled Wednesday that E. Jean Carroll can receive the $5.8 million awarded to her after a 2023 jury found that President Donald Trump sexually abused her in 1996 and later defamed her when he denied her allegations.

U.S. District Judge Lewis Kaplan directed the release of the money from a court escrow account, along with the interest that has accrued since the verdict, after the Supreme Court refused last week to hear the president’s appeal of the award.

.........................
The case arose from a 2022 suit Carroll filed in New York alleging that Trump sexually assaulted her in the dressing room of a Manhattan department store after a chance encounter in 1996. The defamation claims stemmed from comments he made about her after his first term in office, including calling her claims as a “con job” and “hoax.” He maintains he does not know Carroll and didn’t commit any wrongdoing.

No matter how many times he ignores or breaks the laws or rules. No matter how many times he lies.

His answer is always delay, sue, delay, delay some more, sue. Rinse and repeat. Somehow, he thinks he will someday win. Or someone people will forget, or some other bullshit excuse. He just don't want to lose, which he's already done.

The only way to get that 5.9M is to have a judge to force the event to happen. 5.9M is pennies to Trump at this stage of grifting. Losing is the only issue.

Just go get the damn money. That act, in itself should have quite an effect. The con would then be exposed and guilty. It's like the final straw that proves he was guilty of rape.

Go get the money. Let's get this over with. There's much more bullshit to deal with. Did someone say Iran?

The original deposit to the registry was for $5 million plus a "multiplier" of $550,000. The additional amount deposited to the registry is standard operating procedure and is meant to cover post-judgment interest and other costs. Moreover, the initial amount has accrued interest since being deposited and thus Carroll's attorneys have asked for $5.8 million.
