Rep. Suzanne Bonamici, D-Ore., on Thursday introduced articles of impeachment against Education Secretary Linda McMahon for attempting to abolish the Department of Education. Though Democrats have been critical of McMahons agenda of dismantling the department she leads, Bonamicis resolution is their first effort to impeach her.
On the House floor Thursday, Bonamici said that McMahon has lied to Congress and she scolded the secretary for making "illegal transfers" of critical Education Department functions to partner agencies.
"It's completely out of bounds," Bonamici told ABC News after her floor speech. "You can't just unilaterally move a program that Congress put at the Department of Education and put it somewhere else," she said.
The articles of impeachment argue that McMahon has shown a "willful and systemic refusal to comply with the law" and that she's breached the public's trust while making false statements before Congress.k k lmiom i

Secretary McMahon has violated federal law and betrayed students, families, and educators. Itâs time for her to go.

Secretary McMahonâs dismantling of the Department of Education without Congress is ILLEGAL. ð§µ

Today I introduced an impeachment resolution because Secretary McMahon has made it her mission to close down the Department of Education, something she does not have the right to do.

Students deserve to have an Education Department that supports their futures; parents and educators deserve to have education programs in one agency, not scattered throughout government.

(388 posts)she and the DOE that was placed under her control proves what the strategy of P25 and Administration saboteurs is about. They successfully have fomented enough disgust at these liars (not unlike the toddler in chief) that impeachment is predictably and tiresomely called for to undo the damage (e.g. dismantling the DOE).
From the coups standpoint this is a win/win. Tie up the Senate with these impeachments, bog it down with the obstructions, hearings and platitudes. While we exercise the so called remedy of impeachments to remove these insincere players their agenda to destroy the structure of democracy merrily spouts this folly along.

(8,916 posts)The GOP have never had a lot of donor energy around education, even when Dubya wanted to be the education President (remember those days?). However, the donor class has realized that education is a Trojan Horse in the larger fight against unions.
But it all goes back to the truism: What we accept becomes the new acceptable. We have to hold the line on education on moral grounds for the sake of our children, and on strategic ground.
