Labor Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer will step down from the Trump administration to take a job in the private sector, according to a statement posted Monday by White House communications director Steven Cheung.
"Labor Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer will be leaving the Administration to take a position in the private sector. She has done a phenomenal job in her role by protecting American workers, enacting fair labor practices, and helping Americans gain additional skills to improve their lives," Cheung said.
Keith Sonderling will serve as acting secretary of the Department of Labor, Cheung added.
CNN has asked the White House for more details, including when Chavez-DeRemer's departure will take effect.
This is a developing story and will be updated.

(20,052 posts)I know, there's so many scandals in this admin it's almost impossible to keep up. Here's the relevant one to this person losing their job.
The departure was the latest development for the scandal-plagued department following accusations of boozy work trips to strip clubs, trysts at casinos and a 'stash' of liquor in the Washington DC office.
Brian Sloan stepped down from his position last week, after being accused of having a romantic affair with the 57-year-old married Labor Secretary, Politico reports, citing two department officials.
He had previously been placed on leave amid the Department of Labor's Office of Inspector General's probe into allegations that Chavez-DeRemer engaged in unprofessional conduct.
An internal complaint previously obtained by The New York Post details how top staffers at the federal department were accused of 'travel fraud,' creating made up business trips using taxpayer funds to travel to be with family and friends.
It specifically claims Chavez-DeRemer had at least three meetings with her employee and alleged partner in September and October while either waiting for her security team to leave or after Chavez-DeRemer told the security team they weren't needed.

Labor Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer and her top aides and family members routinely sent personal messages and requests to young staff members that are now under review by the departments inspector general.
Ms. Chavez-DeRemer and her former deputy chief of staff sent texts asking employees to bring wine to them during trips for the department. Sometimes the requests came in the middle of the workday.
Ms. Chavez-DeRemers husband exchanged text messages with young female staff members, as did her father. Some of the young women were instructed by Ms. Chavez-DeRemer and the former deputy chief of staff to pay attention to the men, according to people familiar with the investigation.
The text messages have been reviewed by The New York Times.
The messages were gathered as part of a monthslong investigation into Ms. Chavez-DeRemers leadership of the department, which began with a complaint filed to the inspector generals office claiming widespread misconduct. The inquiry has revealed deep frustration in the department with Ms. Chavez-DeRemer, who took office in March 2025. Staff members across the political spectrum have described her as disconnected from the work of the department..........................
