Trump Says Gas Prices Are 'Not Very High' When Asked When Americans Can Expect Relief

Source: MEDIAite

President Donald Trump spoke to reporters outside the White House on Thursday and was asked about gas prices, which he declared are “not very high.”

“Okay, and then on gas prices, how much longer will Americans continue to see these high gas prices?” Trump was asked by a reporter during the lengthy Q&A.

“Well, they’re not very high. If you look at what they were supposed to be in order to get rid of a nuclear weapon, with the danger that entails, so the gas prices have come down very much over the last three, four days,” hit back Trump. “$4 a gallon still,” replied the reporter.

“I know, you know, that’s what ABC says, but the fact is that if you look, the stock market’s up, everything is doing really well. And the big thing we have to do is we have to make sure that Iran does not have a nuclear weapon, because if they do, you want to talk about problems, you’d have problems. So, very important is that Iran does not have a nuclear weapon, and they’ve agreed to that. Iran’s agreed to it, and they’ve agreed to do it very powerfully,” Trump replied.

I'm routinely seeing prices over $6/gallon now, with some stations up over $7. Two days ago, it cost me $49 to put half a tank in my little standard-size sedan (15.6 gallon tank). I stopped because it was $5.65/gallon, which nowadays is cheap. Thank the gods I get to work from home because if I were still commuting as I did for so many years, this would be shattering my budget. I feel so horrible for everyone who has no such choice - and here's the CEO of whatever gas company telling people they should drive less!

... if he ever even learned how to drive. He is utterly oblivious to what working folks have to deal with on a daily basis. But, even if he had an inkling, he wouldn't give a shit; he's a psychopath, and a malignant narcissist. But the simple-minded skidmarks in red hats would still vote for him, 'cause they're just as rotten inside as he is.

From a US perspective they are high relative to "normal", when normal is given as $2.50 a gallon.

From the perspective of inflation.... In 1985 the USA was paying $1.20 a gallon. Adjusted for inflation it would be about $3.50 a gallon today.

So if gasoline tracked inflation it would be "not very high".

But it doesn't. So yeah, gasoline is expensive. Relatively speaking of course.

And Trump is still a lying scumbag.

40 years ago, the federal minimum wage was $3.35/hr. So if one uses your $1.20/gal figure, that comes out to about 36% of 1 hour's pay for a gallon of gas. This is obviously applying to many of your lowest paid workers.

Fast forward 40 years and the minimum wage is $7.25/hr. And if do a ballpark estimate average of $4.00/gal for gas, you are now talking about 55% of 1 hour's pay needed for a gallon of gas.

So the wage lag is real and this crisis is impacting the least among us the most.
