Secretary of State Marco Rubio raised eyebrows over the weekend after posing for a photo with former Proud Boys leader Enrique Tarrio while attending the first Shield of the Americas summit in Miami, Florida.
Tarrio, a far-right activist whose 22-year sentence for his role in the January 6 attack was commuted by President Donald Trump last year, posted a photo of himself and Rubio on Saturday, calling the secretary of state by far the best choice for Trumps cabinet.
Proud of this Cuban! Tarrio captioned the photo of him giving Rubio a thumbs-up, adding, in Spanish, down with communism.
But the photo attracted attention from former lawmakers, liberal groups and media commentators who scolded Rubio for posing with Tarrio, who was convicted of seditious conspiracy and obstruction of Congress, among other charges. Debbie Mucarsel-Powell, a former Democratic congresswoman representing Florida, wrote, I dont understand how [Rubio] would happily pose with a man convicted of seditious conspiracy for his role in the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol.

(379 posts)Why aren't the Proud Boys, Groypers, Boogaloo Boys (they still around?) and right wing militias all lining up to volunteer for duty in the military and go fight them peoples they hate so much? Could it be they are Chickenhawks? All hat, no cattle? Big mouths with little courage? Typical of bullies. Turn and run away.

Even before his Proud Boys stint he was a criminal shit and an informant.
From Wiki.
In 2004, when he was 20 years old, Tarrio was convicted of theft. He was sentenced to community service and three years of probation and was ordered to pay restitution. After 2004, Tarrio relocated to a small town in North Florida to run a poultry farm. He later returned to Miami. He has also founded a security equipment installation firm and another firm providing GPS tracking for companies.[8]
In 2012, Tarrio was indicted for his role in a scheme to rebrand and resell stolen diabetic test strips. After being charged, Tarrio cooperated with investigators, helping them prosecute more than a dozen others.[9] In 2013, Tarrio was sentenced to 30 months (of which he served 16) in federal prison.[10][11][12]
Between 2012 and 2014, Tarrio was an informant to both federal and local law enforcement; in a 2014 federal court hearing, Tarrio's lawyer said that Tarrio had been a "prolific" cooperator who had assisted the government in the investigation and prosecution of more than twelve people in cases involving anabolic steroids, gambling, and human smuggling; had helped identify three "grow houses" where marijuana was cultivated; and had repeatedly worked undercover to aid in investigations. Tarrio denied working undercover or cooperating with prosecutions, but the court transcript contradicted the denial, and the former federal prosecutor in the proceeding against Tarrio confirmed that he cooperated.[13][14] Tarrio's role as an informant was first made public in January 2021,[9][15] after Reuters obtained the court records and interviewed investigators and lawyers involved in the case.[13]

(803 posts)I hope the leaders who attended the summit all resoundingly reject any membership invitation to their country. Trump is obviously pushing for a right wing authoritarian conversion of all of Latin America. Trump is talking about taking over Cuba and putting the closeted foam party attendee in charge. He also obviously wants to subvert the government of Mexico. That's why he's pushing for renewing the trade agreement and going after the Cartels. So he can say they're not doing enough and push for Sheinbaum to be replaced by someone he does business with.
