'America, uh... First!': ICE to buy $7.2 million worth of Canadian armored personnel carriers
Source: Independent
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement is spending more than $7 million on a fleet of armored vehicles designed to protect occupants against bomb blasts and which can stop a .50 caliber round, according to federal procurement records reviewed by The Independent.
However, the 20 bulletproof personnel carriers ordered by the nations deportation agency are not coming from an American manufacturer, but a Canadian company headquartered in Ontario the province whose recent anti-tariff TV ad so infuriated Donald Trump, the president threatened additional levies on all goods coming in from the country.
On Trumps first day back in office, he announced his America First Trade Policy, calling it a critical component to national security that he claimed would lessen Americas dependence on other countries to meet our key security needs, and, above all, benefit the nations workers and businesses.

These personnel carriers, the Roshel Senator, have been battle tested in Ukraine and stood up very well to Russian drone attacks.

Even after ALL the saving by DOGE and Musk and thousands of Fed workers fired.
No a whisper from GQP budget hawks.
Great gig if ya can get it.

(7,162 posts)when I first read this. I know it's about the hypocrisy of "America First" but my mind immediately went to the militarization of a public law enforcement department. Those carriers are not going to be heading to Venezuela... he's planning on using them against American citizens exercising their right to protest the government... among other reasons. He's not going to be happy until he mows down a bunch of "lefties"... and his maga cultists will be right there beside him, cheering him on.
At least, that's the way *I* see it... YMMV.
