Massie says Trump's Epstein investigation might be 'a big smokescreen'
Source: Politico
Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) dismissed the Justice Departments investigation into the late Jeffrey Epsteins ties to notable Democrats as a last-ditch effort to prevent the release of the Epstein files.
"If they have ongoing investigations in certain areas, those documents can't be released," Massie told ABC's Jonathan Karl on "This Week" on Sunday. "So, this might be a big smokescreen, these investigations, to open a bunch of them to, as a last-ditch effort to prevent the release of the Epstein files.
President Donald Trump directed Attorney General Pam Bondi and the FBI to look into Epstein's relationship with former President Bill Clinton and other Democrats, writing on social media: "This is another Russia, Russia, Russia Scam, with all arrows pointing to the Democrats." Bondi on Friday promised to pursue the investigation "with urgency and integrity to deliver answers to the American people" after assigning Manhattan U.S. Attorney Jay Clayton to lead the probe.
The announcement came just days after the House Oversight Committee released tens of thousands of emails handed over by the Epstein estate. The emails, documenting Epstein's vast network of friends and associates and spanning over a decade, include several direct references to Trump, Clinton and other prominent individuals in media, politics and Hollywood.

(756 posts)What's happening with this diversion is obvious, and horrifying, to those of us outside of the cult. However, since Massie is a wingnut this might get a tiny bit of traction on MAGA media and in MAGA social media.
I can't stand Massie, Mace, Greene, and Boebert, but I'm happy to support their position on this issue. Desperate times require strange bedfellows, as I throw up slightly in my mouth for typing that.

(8,871 posts)Just because the GOP overturned the impeachment doesn't change the fact that Mueller said Trump could be indicted for his acts - this was before the Supreme Court, in their infinite wisdom, said all acts by a sitting President are above the law.
The perversity of Mueller's non-responses to direct Congressional questioning will go down poorly in pages of history.

(3,044 posts)ken starr (later an atty for epstein_) and his "elves" (including kavanaugh) knocked on the door of every trailer in arkansas looking for this kind of stuff.
here is a good recap of the starr stuff ..

note that the starr report was released without any review or redaction. here is a weird quote from the speaker of the house ...
NEWT GINGRICH: We regret it - not the report. I certainly did not regret the report. We did our duty as we saw it, but we did very much regret. And as I say, we were genuinely surprised by the fact that Congress would - House of Representatives would see fit simply to release the material without having read, reviewed and redacted.
