Republicans Already Backtracking on Their Promise as Mike Johnson Refuses to Guarantee a Vote on Obamacare
Source: Daily Boulder
House Speaker Mike Johnson is already backing away from a key Republican promise holding a vote to extend Affordable Care Act subsidies that are set to expire soon. When pressed Monday, Johnson dodged the commitment entirely, saying instead the House would need to find a consensus before moving forward.
Were going to do in the House what we always do and that is a deliberative process. Were going to have to find consensus on whatever, whatever the proposal is, Johnson told CNN.
He went on to make it clear he wouldnt guarantee anything, not even a timeline. As you know, I do not guarantee the outcome of legislation or dates or deadlines or anything, he added.

(2,567 posts)the stomach-turning TURNCOAT that Fetternan has become. I am Pittsburger and I voted for that TOWERING DISAPPOINTMENT. (There is no word for the grief I feel because of that decision)
I've despised him since he made the pilgrimage to Mar-a-lago (first senate member EVER) after Trump's reelection.)
I am not surprised by voting with the other seven.

(2,567 posts)I think he's 'sleepwalking' his term in the Senate. His look is 'vacant'. I don't see that 'fire in the belly' anymore...no ideals to guide him in the same way he performed as the mayor of Braddock, Pa. That stroke did more than affect his speech, it's stolen his spirit.
Fetterman may as well be on a 'sight-seeing' tour of DC ...he's like a tourist in casual clothes, showing up when he wants to.... giving interviews to Fox because they want to showcase him now.
He looks...........lost.
And man o man.....................Trump can SMELL an easy target like Fetterman from Trump's lifetime of grifting.

(31,425 posts)to explain just how HARD it is to get the House to do anything... that you have to be in the cloak room where only the select few can go ( and remind everyone that, as a former Senate Staffer he.... oh never mind )... and how this is another great sign that the Democrats ( well, just 8 that are a) independents or b) not up for election in 2026 ) won a great victory... so great that 40 other Democrats didn't even vote for this victory.

As part of Democrats agreement to end the shutdown, Thune is promising Senate Democrats a vote in mid-December to extend Affordable Care Act subsidies that are due to expire at the end of the year without Congressional action. Democrats will also get to determine what extension bill receives that vote.
. . .
House Democratic leadership has insisted the health subsidies be addressed in legislation rather than a handshake compromise, especially as Johnson has refused to offer Democrats the same promise of a vote on an extension in his chamber.
I've read many articles on the "deal" and none promised anything other than a Senate vote. Or implied such. But it's possible that I missed one that did.

(20,871 posts)The Senate passed those bills last night.
Johnson has no choice but to pass those bills in the House this week.
And a humiliated Donald Trump will have no choice other than to sign those two Democratic appropriations bills into law, rather than the clean CR that he fought so hard for.
One of the bills secures VA funding until the end of the fiscal year (September 30, 2026)
The other bill not only secures the funding of SNAP until the end of the fiscal year, but actually increases the funding.

Most people seem unaware of exactly what is in the Senate package. It's so disappointing that Republican and anti-Democratic Party talking points dominate so many liberal spaces.

(452 posts)Armistice Day (some will recall) is that day, since the armistice it referred to Ended the 'War to End All Wars' on the 11th Hour, of the 11th Day of the 11th Month in 1918, has been celebrated on that anniversary (often with 2 minutes of reflection at 11:00)
Since that war did not, in fact, do the trick (hence it is now called World War I) Armistice Day was, in the USA renamed first as 'All Veteran's Day'later shortened to 'Veteran's Day'
My heartfelt wishes to all veterans, their families and to the basically uncounted civilians killed in that, and all subsequent wars.
Sadly, the end result is that we have the finest congress that money can buy. It will be a long road back.
