Wendys plans to close hundreds U.S. restaurants over the next few months in an effort to boost its profit and make its remaining stores more appealing.
The Dublin, Ohio-based chain said during a conference call with investors Friday that it planned to begin closing restaurants in the fourth quarter of this year. The company said it expected a mid-single-digit percentage of its U.S. stores to be affected, but it didnt give any more details.
Wendys ended the third quarter with 6,011 U.S. restaurants. If 5% of those locations were impacted, it would mean 300 store closures.
The new round of closures comes on top of the closure of 240 U.S. Wendys locations in 2024. At the time, Wendys said that many of the 55-year-old chains restaurants are simply out of date.

(7,241 posts)Better yet, make my own burgers (they are bigger and much tastier and my friends love them, just takes a lot of time).
With food costs going up, they probably took a harder look at their marginal profit stores and found they were not profitable anymore.
Reading the local news, there is now only one Arby's in the area. Trickle down effect is happening, the higher paying jobs are going bye bye, so people cut out not only skip nicer dining, but also fast food.

How much is enough? What's the exact percentage of profit needed to prevent one of these greedy, sh*t-selling fast food franchises not to close hundreds of stores they foolishly opened during periods of hyper-expansion and throw thousands of people out of work?

(23,494 posts)More natural fries (I wish they were crispier), better fresher buns, better tasting burger (even though it seems boiled) nicer lettuce and tomato and similar pricing. Ive recently eaten Wendys (once in 10 years), and I have a fish sandwich at McDonalds every few months. I gave up on their burgers years ago.

(617 posts)Was it one of those situations where they donated ONLY to Trump, or were they hedging their bets by donating to both the GOP and the Democrats?
Their quality has gone WAY downhill in recent years so it was no big loss (or change of routine) to avoid them. Oddly enough, Arby's quality has remained consistent... but since they too are part of the Wendy's "family"... we've scratched them off of our list of fast-food indulgences.
