Trump orders all air traffic controllers back to work after shutdown deal

Source: USA Today

Nov. 10, 2025, 11:01 a.m. ET

President Donald Trump threatened to dock the pay of air traffic controllers who don’t report to work, after the Senate reached a compromise to end the 41-day government shutdown. “All Air Traffic Controllers must get back to work, NOW!!!” Trump said on social media Nov. 10. “Anyone who doesn’t will be substantially ‘docked.’”

A Senate bill that advanced Nov. 9 aims to temporarily fund the government until Jan. 30 and provide back pay to federal workers impacted by the shutdown. But the Senate and House must still hold votes on the measure, which could take several more days.

Air traffic controllers continued working without paychecks during the shutdown as essential personnel. But some failed to show up as they looked for other jobs to make ends meet during the congressional impasse, so the Federal Aviation Administration ordered airlines to cancel 4% of their flights during the weekend. More than 10,000 flights were delayed Nov. 9.

Trump urged controllers who didn’t show up for work to quit. And he pledged to recommend $10,000 bonuses to controllers who continued working.

The government is STILL "shut down" until those bills are finished, voted on by BOTH CHAMBERS, and reach his desk. Otherwise they would continue to be violating the Antideficiency Act if they demand that people "go back to work".

The federal government is not some fucking "corporation". There are laws that established it and maintain it, that are continually being violated by the squatters in what is left of the WH.

1. Air traffic controllers are represented by a union, NATCA.

Fatso can't just order them back to work, threaten to dock their pay, or anything of the kind. They can't legally strike, but NATCA has been strongly advocating for an end to the shutdown. https://www.natca.org/

2. They still will not get paid until the chicken scratch signature is on some appropriations bill or C.R.

3. That's true; but Fatso can't unilaterally either not pay them or pay them extra because he feels like it.

TACO will probably send goons to rough them up. And then hire some unqualified replacements like the folks he hired for ICE.

8. I remember that very well. Wouldn't put it past Fatso to pull a similar stunt.

Of course, Reagan's action fucked up ATC for decades, not that Fatso would care.

people don't want to work under such conditions so not many are applying for these jobs. They were short staffed before the shutdown and couldn't train any new ones without funding.

The shutdown has't ended. The Senate needs to have a final vote and then the House needs to vote. So what the fuck is he talking about?
