Democrats seek investigation into agency messages blaming Democrats for the shutdown

Source: NBC News

Nov. 10, 2025, 5:00 AM EST

WASHINGTON — A group of Senate Democrats is pushing for an investigation into the Trump administration’s use of federal agency websites and emails to post partisan messages blaming Democrats for the government shutdown.

In a letter obtained by NBC News, Sen. Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts and other Democrats ask the Government Accountability Office to open a probe into whether the political messages violated federal appropriations laws.

The lawmakers point specifically to a rule that prohibits the executive branch from using funds for “purely partisan” purposes. They are asking for more information from the GAO to see if several agencies violated laws that pertain to ethics and partisan political activity.

As NBC News previously reported, multiple agencies have posted messages on their official federal websites blaming Democrats and the “radical left” for the shutdown. Some also encouraged employees to post similar messages in their out-of-office replies. And five employees of the Department of Education told NBC News that their automatic email replies were changed to partisan messages without their consent.

The columns can be sorted.

List (ranking) of the Senate Democrats - https://progressivepunch.org/scores.htm?x=39&y=4&house=senate&party=D&sort=crucial-lifetime&order=down

List (ranking) of the House Democrats - https://progressivepunch.org/scores.htm?
x=22&y=11&house=house&party=D&sort=crucial-lifetime&order=down

For the Senate, Fetterman is ABOVE Maggie Hassan AND Mark Warner (the latter who is at the bottom of the "progressive" list).

The list of the bottom 10 -

37 Coons, Chris D DE
38 Rosen, Jacky D NV
39 Kaine, Tim D VA
40 Bennet, Michael D CO
41 Slotkin, Elissa D MI
42 Shaheen, Jeanne D NH
43 Gallego, Ruben D AZ
44 Fetterman, John D PA
45 Hassan, Maggie D NH
46 Warner, Mark D VA

Fetterman was rated as a "B" along with people like Schiff, Wyden and Murphy vs Hassan and Warner who are rated as "D".

If the democrats don't scream about it no one will.
forget investigations, they've been crapping all over the hatch act regularly and publicly.
just go on TV and scream about it.

"investigation"? yeah, get back to me on that conclusion when you're all done.

What "TV" networks do Democrats own?

THAT is the problem. We can't "demand" that they put us on or that they bring out a camera crew to cover our press conferences (and there have been many that the M$M didn't bother showing up to despite getting a PRESS RELEASE announcing the dates/times of them).

The only ones who will show them are the CSPANs (CSPAN, CSPAN2, CSPAN3) and although they have a YouTube channel, the stream is often delayed "from earlier", and if you want to watch it live, you need to be a cable subscriber (or other streaming service subscriber that offers it).

We won't spend money on buying media so that we can message without their interference.

We have one tiny light in this dark tunnel and that is one of Soros' organizations that bought the Audacy network last year (with over 200 radio stations and a bunch of podcasts/streaming programs). They are slowly restructuring it and have even prominently displayed their commitment to "DEI". The news radio stations that are part of it are in the top (by population) media markets to boot.

They are elected officials, they have media teams, they can have press conferences, They can generate news, and coverage like Cory Booker did with his marathon speech. We criticize the republicans for their "stunts" but could learn a thing or two about directing the media from them.

And as I indicated, networks like CBS might give those events a passing mention if any at all.

"Media teams" are irrelevant when they are forced to go to the media that they don't own.

They can generate news, and coverage like Cory Booker did with his marathon speech

And who ran it? CSPAN and PBS Newshour.

ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN, MSNBC, etc were NOT about to preempt THEIR programming to run him "live". MSNBC might have shown some blips or portions during their programming, but they would have needed to break away for commercials.

I posted the LBN thread (with the video feed) about Booker's record-breaking speech - https://www.democraticunderground.com/10143430756

That got mixed DU reaction.

I was monitoring that much of the day and night and it got some "attention" but was soon forgotten.

Jeff Merkley ALSO did a marathon speech more recently and it got a few minutes of video coverage on the M$M and most people probably forgot about it or had no idea that it even happened.

I posted a thread about his effort done last month - https://www.democraticunderground.com/10143551705 and linked to the DU cable forum post with the video of it - https://www.democraticunderground.com/132158925

And both threads got a yawn.

You have DUers whining about what the point is "speaking to an empty room" (despite the fact that the cameras are going and it is being broadcast live).

It's not the "messaging" or the "messenger", it's that people have their OWN personal expectations and needs at a particular time in their lives and their level of engagement with "politics" (or at least certain aspects of "politics" ) can run from "deeply involved" like many who post on DU, to "not giving a shit", like most of the rest of the country. And that sentiment can be extrapolated across the globe.
