Bessent says no formal White House health care proposal as shutdown drags on

Source: ABC News

November 9, 2025, 10:46 AM

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said Sunday that there is no formal proposal from the White House to defund the Affordable Care Act and instead send money directly to Americans, despite a social media post from President Donald Trump on Saturday promoting such a plan.

"The president has also come forward with a new proposal overnight, saying it's time, instead, to do away with Obamacare and said to have the money go directly to the people. Do you have a formal proposal to do that?" ABC News' "This Week" anchor George Stephanopoulos.

"We don't have a formal proposal," Bessent said.

But pressed by Stephanopoulos about whether such a plan would be proposed to the Senate, Bessent said that the administration was not proposing it "right now."

... and that giving money directly to people will force big insurance companies to cut their rates.

They say don't attribute to malice what can be explained by stupidity, but in this case, it's both.

"There's no proposal, George. There will never be a proposal like that because it's fucking nuts and will never work. What I do wish is someone would take his goddamn phone away."

during which the proles thrash around a little as it gradually dawns on them that the oligarchy is taking away anything and everything from the non-wealthy.

Once the proles figure it out and just give up, everything settles down.

No problemo! The wealthy just need to ride it out and have the force necessary to keep the underclass in line until they "get used to it" (to paraphrase mitch mcconnell).
