Trump promises $2,000 payments to most Americans during Sunday morning Truth Social posting spree

Source: Independent

President Donald Trump promised to pay almost all Americans $2,000 as he touts his tariff plan in a Truth Social posting spree.

As part of his multi-post rant touting tariffs, the president promised: “ A dividend of at least $2000 a person (not including high income people!) will be paid to everyone.”

It’s not immediately clear when that payment would come or who qualifies as “high income.” The president mentioned no other details about the payment.

-snip-

“People that are against Tariffs are FOOLS! We are now the Richest, Most Respected Country In the World, With Almost No Inflation, and A Record Stock Market Price. 401k’s are Highest EVER,” Trump wrote Sunday morning.

better off with legislation that continued the Medicaid expansion and SNAP and other benefits.

Anyone who was on Medicaid and lost it through his bill, will need more than $2000 this year to be where they were at before he took office. For those on ACA, they will experience a big increase in costs due to the need to consider a larger amount of people without insurance at hospitals in their rates in conjunction with losing the extended subsidy that helped pay for it.

This is before considering the higher prices paid because of the taxes. Even with his attacks on the BLS, which always calculated government statistics, it is clear there IS inflation.

He should remember in 2024, saying that the government was succeeding in bringing down inflation, was not enough even as it was true. People saw that prices were higher than in 2020 during the worst of Covid.

The average SNAP household received a monthly benefit of $332. That works out to $3984 per year.

The average annual increase in Health Insurance premiums for those who currently receive the subsidies is $1016. However for many, the increase would be significantly higher than that. For example:

A typical 60-year-old couple making $85,000 (401 percent of the poverty level) will see monthly marketplace premiums jump from $602 to $2,647 — an annual increase of roughly $24,500.

A typical family of four making $130,000 (404 percent of the poverty level) will see their monthly marketplace premium go from $921 to $1,992 — an annual increase of about $12,900.

a 60-year-old West Virginia couple making $85,000 will see annual premiums for a benchmark silver plan skyrocket from $7,225 to over $54,000.

Simple math. Multiply 245 million Americans (340 million residents, less foreign nationals and "high income" people) X $2,000. That's hundreds of BILLIONS of dollars. Even if you assume it's $2K per household, that's still over a hundred BILLION dollars. The man is out of his fucking mind.

The announcement comes days after Trump attended a lavish dinner party at Mar-a-Lago as the longest-ever government shutdown drags on. As many Americans turn to food banks during the shutdown, the event Trump attended featured a three-course menu of beef filet, truffle dauphinoise, pan-seared scallops and a trio of desserts, including “Trump chocolate cake.”

Fuel prices in my area have increased by .46 cents in the last 6 days, grocery prices and medical costs are increasing by the day, if not by the hour, Americans are going hungry, starting to lose their homes, cars, etc.

This POS needs to be impeached in the House, which ain't going to happen because that worthless MAGAt pedophile protector, M. And it’s money the American people paid anyway (though he still insists other countries pay it…because he’s stupid).

But don’t discount the effect it would have if he was able to finagle some kind of payment to Americans. He’d insist that *his name* appear on the check, just as he did with that $200 check during his first term. This worked with a lot of people - I know of more than a few who actually voted for him in 2024 because he “gave them money”, and none those other politicians gave them anything. These folks truly believed he was giving them HIS OWN MONEY.

in the last 3 months.

It's not comforting to me at all that the last 3 months have averaged 3.6% (annualized) for both the CPI and the core CPI. The 3 month average is my favorite gauge of RECENT inflation. The 1 month number can be dismissed as a "one off", while the 12 month average (year-over-year) has too much old data in it to be considered a good measure of RECENT inflation -- half the months are March 2025 or older, for example. Four of the months are Biden-era months.

340.1 million people in the US. Assume 10% are foreign nationals and ineligible. A very high figure, but go with it. That leaves 306 million US citizens. Assume 20% are "high earners" and ineligible. Probably a high figure as well. 245 million Americans are eligible X $2,000 each = ~ $490 BILLION DOLLARS! Crazy. By household perhaps? Assuming 3 persons per household average, that's ~$163 BILLION DOLLARS.
