James Comey case 'coming apart at the seams' as crucial evidence collapses: report

Source: Raw Story

November 8, 2025 8:42AM ET

The Department of Justice's case against former FBI Director James Comey appears to be unraveling, with new evidence casting significant doubt on the prosecution's central allegations, The New Republic wrote.

Prosecutors claim Comey lied during 2020 Senate testimony when he denied authorizing an anonymous FBI source to speak to news outlets about the bureau's Hillary Clinton investigation — with the alleged source being identified as attorney Dan Richman. But newly revealed documents show Richman wasn't even employed by the FBI at the time — and that glitch has the government's case "coming apart at the seams," The New Republic wrote.

Documents reviewed by Lawfare reveal critical inconsistencies in Richman's employment status. His first term at the FBI ran from June 30, 2015, to June 30, 2016, serving unpaid and part-time as an advisor on encryption issues. A handwritten FBI official's note provides a damning detail: "Doc drawn up + sent to OGC for Richman signature. Never signed. Never officially reappointed after June 2016."

That suggests that all evidence prosecutors cited occurred outside Richman's periods of employment at the FBI, The New Republic reported.

They have evidence that Comey didn't order anyone to leak anything. Not sure why there is even still a case.

There's a reason why every single competent lawyer at DOJ refused to take it before a grand jury because it was obvious he committed no crime. Same with Letitia James.

The federal grand jury indictment process is very much susceptible to abuse if the DOJ doesn’t mind losing at trial. While I’m sure Bondi would love to win a few, I don’t think that’s the primary goal. I think it’s primarily to punish past anti-Trump behavior and to chill speech and actions against Trump’s policies in the present. Even if found innocent most of us do not want to be indicted and go through a trial. I applaud all who stand up against political extortion.

Or something to that effect. I'm not a lawyer. (But I'd probably do better than Trump's stooges)

He has no knowledge and doesn't recognize that word so always gets in trouble with the courts that aren't fellating him before he even gets there.
