Josh Shapiro Calls Out JD Vance's Appalachia Roots In Slam Over SNAP Benefits Cut

Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro (D) delivered a blistering rebuke of Vice President JD Vance at a Philadelphia press conference on Friday, fuming that he “turned his damn back” on the Appalachian communities he once claimed to represent and of overseeing policies that leave Americans “hungry.”

Shapiro’s comments came after he was asked by a reporter about Vance’s public condemnation of a court-ordered directive to release SNAP funding as “absurd.” The governor clapped back with a direct call out of the vice president’s Appalachian roots, blasting his “bullsh*t politics” and arguing that Vance was a “total phony” who “doesn’t give a damn about all Americans.” Shapiro said:

As for JD Vance, I gotta say, look, I think America, Yeah. America has a president, a vice president that don’t give a damn about all Americans. They have made that crystal clear. And I mean, at least with Donald Trump, he’s transparent about that. JD Vance is a total phony.

And let me explain why: JD Vance rose to some prominence by writing a book about growing up in Appalachia where there’s a whole lot of people who get SNAP. He made millions of dollars on the backs of telling their stories, and then he turned his damn back on those very people who he likes to write about and claim as his own.
