UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) -- The U.S. turkey population has reached its lowest level in nearly four decades as Thanksgiving approaches.
The American Farm Bureau Federation reports an estimated 195 million birds this year, attributing the decline to multiple outbreaks of avian diseases.

Despite the tighter supply, industry experts do not anticipate any major shortage of turkeys this holiday season.

Why not break with mindless tradition and look for alternatives?
Traditional celebrations always become an excuse for face stuffing, with the reasons for the celebration long faded from memory.

(32,992 posts)on frozen turkeys Thursday (which is senior discount day 5% off) for $1.99/lb. Butterball and their house brand were the same price. When I got there at 10:40 am, the freezer was practically empty of Butterballs. I brought home a 13 lb one. I effectively paid $1.89/lb with the discount.
