Former President Joe Biden will visit Omaha on Friday, just as Democrats across the country are energized by a successful Election Day Tuesday and looking to channel that energy into another strong showing in the 2026 midterms.
Biden will headline the 2025 Ben Nelson Gala, named for the former governor and U.S. senator who is the last Democrat to hold statewide office in Nebraska. The sold-out event at the Hilton Omaha Downtown also features Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear and Harry Dunn, a former U.S. Capitol police officer who helped protect lawmakers during the Jan. 6, 2021, insurrection. Omaha Mayor John Ewing will emcee the event.
Biden has largely stayed out of the public eye since leaving office but has participated in a few speaking engagements. The former president has been receiving treatment for prostate and skin cancers in recent months.
His appearance in Omaha signals the national importance of eastern Nebraska in 2026.
