A federal judge on Wednesday issued a temporary restraining order requiring federal authorities to improve sanitary conditions inside the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility in Broadview, while also guaranteeing detainees contact with their attorneys.
The order requires ICE to provide detainees at Broadview with clean bedding and sufficient space to sleep if they are held overnight; a shower at least every other day; clean toilet facilities; three full meals per day; a bottle of water with each meal; adequate supplies of soap, toilet paper, and other hygiene products; and menstrual products and prescribed medications.
"People shouldn't be sleeping next to overflowing toilets," U.S. District Judge Robert Gettleman said. "They should not be sleeping on top of each other."
Holding cells also must be cleaned at least twice a day, and detainees must be provided free and private phone calls with their attorneys. Detainees also must be given a list of pro bono attorneys in English and Spanish upon arrival at the facility, along with interpreter services if needed. Detainees also must be listed on ICE's online detainee locator system as soon as they arrive at the Broadview facility.

(42,578 posts)and says they couldn't check off all 15 of Gettleman's orders. Then what.
He rules contempt? Sends inspectors? Then it gets appealed and stopped by the 7th Circuit?
Could one factor be that the 7th Circuit Chief Judge and three others are Trump appointees?
The 7th has already stopped Judge Ellis and taken Bovino's side re ICE street behavior, because ICE being humanitarian isn't a priority for that court as much as allowing ICE to do its "enforcement" job, humane detainee treatment and public safety be damned.
That trump had appointed appeals judges in blue state circuits did come as a surprise, though. Guess I underestimated the federalist society.
