Nebraska AG accuses Swiss billionaire of funneling donations to liberal ballot campaigns

Source: Lincoln Journal Star

Nebraska on Wednesday sued a Swiss billionaire and a group of progressive nonprofits, accusing the group of funneling millions of foreign dollars into domestic elections in a violation of state law.

In a 32-page lawsuit filed Wednesday morning in Madison County, Nebraska Attorney General Mike Hilgers accused Hansjörg Wyss, a Swiss-born businessman worth up to $12 billion, of pouring nearly $9.5 million into liberal ballot campaigns in 2024.

Hilgers' office accused Wyss of funneling his "sizable personal fortune" into two nonprofits he founded in the U.S., which in turn poured money into so-called "dark money groups" like the Sixteen Thirty Fund and New Venture Fund that, in turn, donated to other progressive nonprofits, including the Fairness Project and the Hopewell Fund.

All four of those groups donated to fund liberal ballot campaigns in Nebraska last year — including a successful effort to require Nebraska employers to provide paid sick leave and a costly, failed effort to enshrine the right to an abortion until fetal viability into the state's constitution — while also providing grants to Nebraska-based nonprofits like Civic Nebraska and the Second House Collaborative that have donated to liberal ballot campaigns, too, Hilgers' office alleged.

Like the hundreds of Millions funneled by Russia to U.S. Republican candidates in 2016, including Trump?
The biggest crime in politics at that time was the illegal, but creative method that Putin/Trump contrived to launder all Russia's massive "donations" through the NRA..........
******************************
As a PS:....... to Hilger and all his other Nebraska Republican Politicans in office. As I see it, your farming industry should be your top worry with what Trump has done to those folks with his Tariffs, as well as in other Republican Agricultural states.

AND an equally huge crisis is the demise of Rural Fire Protection, Rural EMS Protection, and Rural Hospitals that are all disappearing across your states at an alarming rate and speed that is greatly accelerating........

like the one in Argentina, say.

Or for Putin and other foreign interests to buy
elections in the USA, like the one for Trump, say.

But I did come up with something about Elon writing $1 million checks to MAGA voters. Did he see that?

At a news conference unveiling the lawsuit on Wednesday, Hilgers said his office had not "forensically" traced money donated to Nebraska ballot campaigns directly to Wyss or his foundations, but argued state law doesn't require that, since even "indirect" donations from foreign nationals are illegal.

Sounds like he might not be able to make this case stand up in court.
