Employees at Green Thumb Industries Rise dispensary in York have ended a 45-day strike by ratifying their first union contract, according to a news release, marking what labor leaders say is the longest successful work stoppage in the U.S. cannabis industry.
The agreement, negotiated by Teamsters Local 776, includes paid holidays, bereavement leave, annual wage increases, and a structured disciplinary process. Union officials say the deal could influence labor standards across the growing cannabis sector.
This is a monumental achievement, and its entirely due to the grit and bravery of our members, said Ed Thompson, president of Local 776. By winning this strike, these men and women have set the stage for thousands of other cannabis workers to join our cause.
The strike surpassed a previous record set by GTI Teamsters in Illinois two years ago. Jesse Case, director of the Teamsters Food Processing Division, said the contract demonstrates how organized labor can shape the industry: By raising the bar at multi-state operators nationwide, our union benefits workers, consumers and proprietors in cannabis.
