Trump signals he'll fund SNAP after federal judges ruled the administration must keep sending out benefits

Source: Business Insider

Oct 31, 2025, 7:35 PM ET

Federal judges in Massachusetts and Rhode Island ruled Friday afternoon that President Donald Trump must fund food stamps during the government shutdown.

In a Friday night Truth Social post, Trump signaled he would comply with the judges' orders. "Our Government lawyers do not think we have the legal authority to pay SNAP with certain monies we have available, and now two Courts have issued conflicting opinions on what we can and cannot do," the president said on Truth Social. He added, "Therefore, I have instructed our lawyers to ask the Court to clarify how we can legally fund SNAP as soon as possible."

The cases, filed on behalf of states, municipalities, and nonprofit organizations this week, called for the Trump administration to use contingency funds to pay for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program during the government shutdown.

The rulings reverse the USDA's plans to pause benefits starting November 1 after their typical funding sources ran out. Patrick A. Penn, deputy undersecretary for US Food, Nutrition, and Consumer Services, said in a letter to state leaders on October 24 that the Agriculture Department is "suspending all November 2025 benefit allotments until such time as sufficient federal funding is provided, or until FNS directs State agencies otherwise."

because as I understand, it may take time for the funds to even be loaded on the EBT cards (at least according to a radio news report I heard this morning), and the GOP were loudly proclaiming that they "couldn't" do anything with one ass telling their constituents to "stop smoking crack".

Same situation here in the USA.

Pissy looking gold fixtures. He had better taste than that.

When I first saw the photos of how pedo Trump destroyed the cool looking bathroom, I thought those yellowish clumpy fixtures were urine stains....or ketchup stains that wouldn't fully wash out?

But nope, those ugly urine colored fixtures were put there on purpose. Really ugly.

done to improve it. But Trump managed to turn it into a marble monstrosity. Now it's downright ugly. Cold and gray, like him.

Did Saddam Hussein come back from the dead to advise Trump on interior design? What's with all this dictator chic?

I guess we have one thing to be thankful for though, it looks like Trump probably won't tear down the part of the White House that has the Lincoln Bedroom.

How do we know that he won't tear down that part of the White House?

He bulldozed and trashed beautiful antique architectural features, trees and gardens. With no care for preservation or even selling off those historical features.

He could have made some money off selling pieces of the White House. But it didn't even occur to him. So, he doesn't care that he destroys wealth or wastes our tax dollars.

The man is crazy. You can never predict what a crazy, dementia riddled, psycho idiot is going to do. Especially if you get him angry or hurt his feelings.

The only guarantee you have that he won't destroy that part of the White House is if you remove him as president.

"Therefore, I have instructed our lawyers to ask the Court to clarify how we can legally fund SNAP as soon as possible."

What this tells me is he's trying to delay the payments. The court already told them how to fund SNAP benefits, from the emergency fund. This is a stall tactic to inflict more pain on the most vulnerable Americans.

Confused as to how to do it legally and eager to make it happen if someone can just explain it to him.

It was sickening.

But it made me happy that he finally gave in after crushing public sentiment (and a court order).

BOTH courts said what he is doing is illegal and that they must use the contingency funds that were set up for EXACTLY that purpose. There is no mystery to any of this and the court does not need to tell the agency how to make this happen.

And since when, did Trump start trying to err on the side of remaining strictly within the law and the orders of courts?

The judges should order the Trump lawyers back into court TODAY to explain what they didn't understand about USE THE DAMN CONTINGENCY FUND ALREADY?

He's a crazy, dementia riddled, psycho idiot. You cannot predict what he's going to do next, even when he tells you what he's going to do. Especially if you get him angry or hurt his fragile ego.

Though, I might be wrong about not being able to predict it. You can predict it will be awful, cruel and stupid.
