Mitch McConnell Slams The Heritage Foundation: 'Conservatives Should Feel No Obligation to Carry Water for Antisemites'

Source: Mediaite

Senator Mitch McConnell (R-KY) slammed The Heritage Foundation over its defense of Tucker Carlson on X Friday, writing that “conservatives should feel no obligation to carry water for antisemites.”

On Thursday, the president of The Heritage Foundation, Kevin Roberts, posted a highly disputed video in which he defended Carlson’s recent interview with white nationalist Nick Fuentes — despite calls for the organization to distance itself from the former Fox News host.

“We will always defend truth, we will always defend America, and we will always defend our friends against the slander of bad actors who serve someone else’s agenda. That includes Tucker Carlson,” said Roberts. “I disagree with, and even abhor, things that Nick Fuentes says, but canceling him is not the answer either.”

“The ‘intellectual backbone of the conservative movement’ is only as strong as the values it defends,” wrote McConnell. “Last I checked, ‘conservatives should feel no obligation’ to carry water for antisemites and apologists for America-hating autocrats.”

People are pissed Tucker gave him a platform to spew his Nazi rhetoric, unchallenged by Carlson.

NOT giving him that platform is not "cancelling" him. Neither would "arguing against his points" have been "cancelling" him.

And even a broken clock is right twice a day. Kudos to McConnell (in this one case) for doing what is right.

Without antisemitism, your party would not exist. But you know that. Stand tall and take credit for helping to usher it in.

Co-founder Paul Weyrich and his backer Joseph Coors were not "conservative." They wanted to tear down the country and remake it into some fascistic wet dream.

It shouldn't be a surprise the HF would stick up for neo- Nazis. It is not a "conservative" organization.

The word "conservative" hasn't had any relevance since Bush II. The GOP has been overtaken by the radical right long since.

I’m having a hard time keeping the crazies straight, and why they’re feuding with each other, at least at the top. As far as I can tell, Tucker Carlson, Nick Fuentes, and the Heritage Foundation are all now loosely aligned with each other, which is especially bad since Fuentes is rabidly antisemitic. On the other side are Mitch McConnell and presumably somewhat less crazy wingnuts who fall under the misleading heading of ‘traditional conservatives’. And where does Project 2025 fit in this feud?

These people are all crazy to me. But I don’t understand the practical implications of this in the sane world. Is one side expected to ‘win’ and, if so, who and what will it mean? I just know it’s not good either way.

Justice matters.
