Trump Says Meeting Democrats to Avert Shutdown Unlikely to Help

Democratic congressional leaders demanded a meeting with Donald Trump ahead of a possible government shutdown, drawing a noncommittal response from the president. “I’d love to meet with them, but I don’t think it’s going to have any impact,” Trump told reporters outside the White House on Saturday.

After Senate Republicans and Democrats blocked rival stopgap measures on Friday, Trump predicted a shutdown was likely, while adding that “we’ll continue to talk to the Democrats.”

On Saturday, he suggested he sees little room for Democrats to make demands after their 2024 election defeat. “They want all this stuff, they haven’t changed, they haven’t learned from the biggest beating they’ve ever taken, just about,” he said. “I’d love to meet with them if they want to meet.”

The Senate, which can take several days to pass legislation, left town for a break lasting until Sept. 29. The House plans a longer recess extending until Oct. 7.

His base, being the animals that they are, are fine with this. They don't understand the differences. They don't understand the differences because the entire Republican party doesn't know the difference between a democracy and a dictatorship. They will never learn that a time will come when their followers rise up in defiance to purposely do the opposite of what they're told. They will act with defiance, like recalcitrant children, more so than before.
These are who are mowing down crowds with their vehicles, shooting up schools, and fomenting hate. These are the followers that are acting on the belief that Democrats and the government are the forces misdirecting them and focusing their hatred there. But the time will soon come that an administration that censors our voices and removes us from political positions will no longer be able to misdirect the unknowing. Eventually the fact that the republicans have been the ones with whips in their hands while stepping on their our leashes will come to light. The government that they have been groomed to see as an evil empire will consist of only those they have learned to hate.

He won’t listen to anything they have to say. He thinks he holds all the cards.
His play might be to demand that the Senate scrap the filibuster.

That's some negotiating right there.

He expects whatever he dictates to rethugs to be rammed right down Dems throats again.

Of course this is so he can say Dems shut it down . He doesn't seem to realize that he's pretty much shut down all the good things already.

10. I think for once Trump is right. It won't help because Trump blows hot air and never listens.

To be fair, Trump probably wouldn't understand what he was hearing even if he did listen.

11. It's only "the biggest beating" because America elected an adjudicated rapist & convicted felon

Harris got 75,019,230 votes. Trump got 77,303,568. THAT'S HARDLY "the biggest beating" Democrats ever took from Republicans.

That's 2 million votes. Of course, he knows that. But he has to exaggerate to sooth his tiny, tiny ego.

but Greg Palast has shown that Republicans tossed enough voters off rolls to have tilted the election to Trump.

In his view, 2020 was "RIGGED" and "STOLLEN" (a frequent misspelling in his all-caps rage tweets.

He came up with "STOP THE STEAL" so the MAGAts would have a new easy to remember, easy to repeat catch phrase.

And after millions of dollars spent and endless recounts, THERE WAS NO STEAL TO STOP.

And whatever Trump is yelling about the loudest, whatever he's accusing his opponent of doing, HE IS THE ONE ACTUALLY DOING IT.

He learned it from Roy Cohn.

Republicans in control of all three branches of government drive the government over the cliff.
