Cory Booker Explodes on Trump FBI Director in Epic Hearing Brawl

Source: MEDIAite

Senator Cory Booker (D-NJ) exploded at Trump FBI Director Kash Patel in a hearing exchange that turned into an outright brawl. Amid bipartisan criticism over his handling of the Charlie Kirk murder investigation, Director Patel testified before a hearing of the Senate Judiciary Committee Tuesday.

That hearing continued on Tuesday’s edition of CNN’s Inside Politics, during which Sen. Booker dug in and twisted the knife by telling Patel he didn’t think he was long for the job.

When Director Patel launched into a bitter retort to the “rant,” the exchange became a throwdown that wound up involving committee Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-IA):

SEN. CORY BOOKER: I don’t think you’re fit to be in the bureau, but here’s the thing, Mr. Patel. I think you are not going to be around long. I think this might be your last oversight hearing. Because as much as you supplicate yourself to the will of Donald Trump and not the Constitution of the United States of America, Donald Trump has shown us in his first term and in this term, he is not loyal to people like you. He will cut you loose. This may be the last time I have a hearing with you because I don’t think you’r long for your job. But I’m going to tell you this. I pray for you. I pray that you can step up and defend your oath, defend the Constitution, and do a much better job of defending this country. Thank you, Mr. Chairman.

That's Trump's revenge.

Someone less competent and equally bizarrely loyal.

Not just troll dolls but MISFIT troll dolls.

Patel is particularly aggressive when he wants to cancel out Dem questioners by going into rapid-fire defensive shouting, drowning out the other person speaking. I did not see one person today able to defend against this tactic.

Pam Bondi does the same.

I'd like to see the Dems team up to be able to follow-up on points that get drowned out. He generally lets them get their initial point out before he goes off. They need to use that space to continue the points that are drowned out, then add new ones before he goes off again.

They also need to come prepared to factcheck the most egregious lies. Erich Schmidtt, (R-MO) went off on a egregious diatribe painting "leftists" as terrorists, doing a rapid-fire recitation of shootings, and asking Patel to identify if they were left or right. Dems needed to be prepared for that argument and find a way to shoot it down, perhaps with a poster of facts.

Their arguments, and style, are entirely predictable. We need to do a better job countering them.

and some who have gone the extra mile, have had their words stricken from the Congressional Record by the GOP Chair.

If/when we can take back either or both chambers, then we can go much further.

They can get officially blocked, but what really counts is what sticks in the listeners' minds, and gets on the news clips.

Dem points were skillfully drowned out and "erased' in the memories of those watching the hearing by Republican rhetorical teamwork. On an individual level, they've always relied on the gish gallop. Today, what I saw was a well-coordinated team effort to sequentially derail Dem talking points.

Dems need a team-based debate strategy to counter their sequential Gish Gallops and shout downs. Cory did a pretty good job of shouting over Kash, but in the end, I don't remember the points he was trying to make. And that's the problem. Their tactics make their messages "stickier" than ours, IMHO.

means that SOMETHING is being reported and noting that it got heated. I.e., Dems weren't "caving" to the gish gallop.

You do have an issue with Durbin as the Ranking Member (and he's not running again), and he is not always "fiery".

In general, the Committee members will follow the lead of the Ranking Member to avoid a "public division".

Didn't mean to come off as negative. I was just frustrated by their tactics and hoping there were better ways to counter them. I thought Adam did very well - maybe it's the prosecutor background.
