Trump cannot fire Fed's Lisa Cook before FOMC meeting, appeals court rules

A federal appeals court ruled Monday that President Donald Trump cannot fire Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook before the central bank’s policy committee votes on whether to lower interest rates.

The ruling from the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit means that Cook, a member of the Fed’s board of governors, can participate in the pivotal two-day meeting starting Tuesday morning.

Trump’s attorneys on Thursday had submitted an emergency request to pause a lower-court ruling, which barred Cook’s firing from taking effect while her lawsuit against the president’s action continues.

But they have “not satisfied the stringent requirements for a stay pending appeal,” the appellate court ruled in its brief order Monday night. The White House did not immediately respond to CNBC’s request for comment.

BREAKING: On a 2-1 vote, the D.C. Circuit rejects the Trump administration's request to allow Trump's purported firing of Fed Board Governor Lisa Cook to take effect during litigation.

She will remain on the board for now, absent a further court order to the contrary.

Amid the controversy, the personal finances of other government officials and their families have also come into question by rival politicians, the media and others.
Last week, Reuters reported that Pulte’s own father and stepmother had declared two homes in two different states as their primary residence, prompting a town in Michigan to remove a tax exemption for their home there and charge the couple for back taxes. Pulte and his parents didn’t respond to requests for comment about the matter.

7. Appeals court allows Federal Reserve governor Lisa Cook to keep her job

The Trump administration wants to remove the board member of the powerful central bank before a key meeting Tuesday on setting interest rates.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2025/09/15/lisa-cook-supreme-court-federal-reserve-firing/

A divided federal appeals court on Monday ruled Federal Reserve governor Lisa Cook can keep her job, turning aside an appeal by the Trump administration that sought to fire her ahead of the central bank’s key meeting this week on setting interest rates.

The Trump administration was expected to quickly appeal the decision to the Supreme Court.

Trump has accused Cook of mortgage fraud — a charge she denies — and has sought her dismissal.

But attorneys for Cook wrote in filings that trying to remove her so close to this week’s meeting could throw the central bank’s vote on interest rates into “chaos” and has the “real potential of impacting domestic and foreign markets.”

Cook’s attorneys added in a Saturday filing that allowing Trump’s firing would transform the Fed “from a historically independent institution into an at will body, leaving the nation’s central bank (and its monetary policy) at the mercy of the White House and its political whims."

is good news, I am fairly confident the nazi majority on this supreme court will rule that Lisa Cook does not need to have due process, or even cause to be removed by their fuhrer in the WH.
