Rep. Sarah Elfreth (D-Md.) said Sunday the U.S. is at a boiling point, a comment that came in the wake of the death of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.
Were certainly at a crossroads in this nation as a community and as a country, and the political violence we saw this week with Charlie Kirk is the same way many Americans felt about the political assassination of Minnesota Representative Melissa Hortman and her husband in their home, the bombing of the Pennsylvania governors mansion, the attempted assassinations on the president, Elfreth said on CNNs State of the Union.
We are at a boiling point in this country, she added.
Kirk was speaking at a Utah Valley University event Wednesday when he was fatally shot. Following a manhunt featuring local, state and federal law enforcement, officials identified the alleged suspect as Tyler Robinson, 22, of Utah. On Friday, Sen. Brian Schatz (D-Hawaii) pushed for the public to not focus on the political alignment of Kirks suspected shooter, and to instead focus on mental well-being.
