MINNEAPOLIS The University of Minnesota and Teamsters Local 320 have reached a tentative agreement, ending a weeklong strike and clearing the way for Farm Aid 40 to proceed as planned, the union and the organization announced Saturday.
The deal concludes a walkout that began Monday and affected services from dining to trash removal at several university campuses. Teamsters Local 320, which represents custodial, maintenance and food service workers, will now present the agreement to its members for a vote.
Farm Aid 40, scheduled for Sept. 20 at Huntington Bank Stadium on the universitys Twin Cities campus, was at risk of cancellation due to the strike. The organization had stated it might call off the event if a resolution was not found, noting that many artists and production crews would not cross the picket line in solidarity with the workers.
In a press release, Farm Aid said, "For four decades, Farm Aid has stood with farmers and workers. Todays agreement is a reminder of what can be achieved when people come together in the spirit of fairness and solidarity."
