U.S. Rep. Morgan Luttrell is stepping away from Congress after just two terms.
The Magnolia Republican, who has served in Congress since 2023, announced Thursday he will not be seeking reelection to represent the 8th Congressional District. The seat, which covers a solidly red expanse north and west of Houston, is set to stay in GOP hands under the states new redistricting map.
In a statement, Luttrell said he decided over the summer to forgo a third term after witnessing the deadly Central Texas flooding, which he said made him realize he wanted to stay closer to home.
Im not walking away from service, and Im certainly not walking away from the fight, Luttrell said. Im choosing a different path one that allows me to stay rooted in Texas and focus on the people and places that matter most.

(12,195 posts)Our cat rescue organization got call a few weeks ago from a person who had adopted a pair of brothers. She was unable to care for them any longer because she had cancer. We got called in because their original foster wasn't available, so we took them back to our house. We got there and she was looking really bad. We also noticed the MAGA pillow on her sofa. She mentioned during the conversation that her nephew is a Congressman from Texas. I looked him up, and saw this guy.
Well, even though we have several strongly progressive people in our rescue group, the policy is that our concern is the care and rescue of cats. We take no position on politics. She is now in a hospice program in North Carolina near one of her friends. Fortunately, the cats are with another friend and are adapting well.
Moral to the story: MAGAs may be assholes, but cancer doesn't discriminate. And if you have to deal with them, just keep your focus on what you're there for.
