JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (First Alert 4) - The Missouri Senate on Wednesday introduced redistricting and ballot initiative bills after the House passed its versions a day earlier.
The action inside the chamber came after hours of Democratic filibustering, while outside, thousands of protesters rallied against the proposals.
Union workers from across the state filled the Capitol steps and packed the rotunda. Members of UAW Locals 249 of Kansas City and 2250 of the St. Louis area joined community activists, allies and other union members representing several unions, including Unite Here Local 74, based in St. Louis.
The legislation would redraw Missouris congressional map, making Kansas Citys district 5 stretch into mid-Missouri and making it more republican friendly. The initiative petition reform bill would change the initiative petition process, the process that allows voters to place issues directly on the statewide ballot.
