JUST IN: House Stops GOP-Led Move to Punish Democrat Accused of Pushing Federal Agent

Source: MEDIAite

Sep 3rd, 2025, 2:45 pm

The House voted on Wednesday to table an effort to censure Rep. LaMonica McIver (D-NJ) over a physical altercation at an immigration facility. Five Republicans joined Democrats on Wednesday to table the effort to censure McIver and remove her from the Committee on Homeland Security. A total of 210 Republicans voted in favor, but five joined 207 Democrats in blocking the censure.

McIver and other lawmakers visited a New Jersey ICE facility in May to protest the treatment of illegal migrants being housed there. The lawmakers said they were denied entry, and video shows a physical altercation between the lawmakers and ICE agents that included shoving and shouting.

Acting U.S. Attorney for the District of New Jersey Alina Habba announced charges against McIver, accusing her of assaulting ICE agents, something she has denied. Habba alleged that McIver “assaulted, impeded, and interfered with law enforcement” during the incident.

“The charges against me are purely political—they mischaracterize and distort my actions, and are meant to criminalize and deter legislative oversight,” she said in a statement.

Frustrating that time after when an issue like this is reported that the writer doesn’t seem to think it important to include the names. Journalism has gone to hell.

Sometimes they will do an update and include the vote tally but other times, they don't get back to it.

It looks like they are very worried about their seats next year. Good, they blinked now they need to have more pressure put on them.

Habba's "acting" term has expired and she has no standing, as has been determined by numerous federal courts. She is not the acting anything.

In addition, the court accepted her appointment as having been valid from March 28 until July 1 and the indictment of McIver was filed June 10.

I'm not defending Habba in any way shape or form. The case against McIver never should have been brought. And the article was unclear insofar as it suggests that Habba currently is the acting US Attorney, although, because of the stay, it also is unclear that she isn't.
