DeSantis and Ladapo to 'end all vaccine mandates in Florida law'
Source: Miami Herald
Florida is set to end all state vaccine mandates, state Surgeon General Joseph Ladapo announced at a news conference Wednesday.
For decades, the state has required numerous vaccines for kids attending school, including shots that protect against Measles-mumps-rubella, polio, chickenpox and Hepatitis B.
But Ladapo on Wednesday compared these mandates to slavery, and promised that they all will soon end. He did not immediately provide specifics.
Vaccines have saved at least 154 million lives in the last 50 years, according to the World Health Organization. The vast majority of the lives saved were infants.

I hope all these stupid parents have time to say goodbye to their kids.

Yeah, I know. If the Republican Party is the alleged party of personal responsibility (its not but lets move along) then they have to face the consequences for their actions.
Beyond that.

(6,516 posts)I'm sorry blue Floridians. I empathize... I really do, living in a red state, myself. And just as hampered by the red state laws as you are. But if Floridians are to become the new harbingers of disease in the United States, then the only answer is for the rest of the States to quarantine Florida.
Frankly, I'd prefer quarantining every maga or conservative leaning repub... give them a handful of states to call their own. Rip out the military/civilian infrastructure that the democratic nation built for them and let them handle their problems on their own.
Like I said, I have great empathy for the dems in Fl, and in TX, and in KS, and in any number of the other "Red" states that are fighting a civil war the other side won't acknowledge. And I know the dearest wish of Putin is to see us broken up as a nation. At this point, I don't care WHAT putin wants or doesn't want... I want the damned cave people back under their rocks or far away from the rest of us.

Two can play that game. And I dare Fed Gov to stop the Northeast or Western Alliance (Newsom announced WA, OR, and CA going it alone).
I fully support my State (NJ) working with other states in the Northeast for the greater good of public health.

In the decades between 1880 and 1920, a family was lucky if HALF of their chilren reached the age of 10! It's heartbreaking to see the same father's signature on death certificates, over and over again.

don't get to fucking mindlessly endanger other people's lives (particularly those of us who still believe in science) as a result of personal and/or ideological stupidity on the part of your government. Period.
Other major tourism states (CA, HI, NY) should ban them from entering at all.

I mean they could/would pass it off as decreasing the costs of new housing, making housing in Floriduh more affordable since those pesky regulations are telling people what to do with their houses (gOvEnMeNt CaNt TeLl YoU hOw To BuIlD!)
And do it next week right at the peak of hurricane season just to be even more tone deaf.

As DeSantisâ administration in Florida targets *all* of the stateâs vaccine mandates, remember:

If Lapado & Co succeed, Floridians would start exporting contagions and serious ailments to other Americans â and in all likelihood, even to other countries. www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddo...
https://www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddow-show/maddowblog/florida-surgeon-general-ladapo-takes-aim-states-vaccine-mandates-rcna228838
With this in mind, the latest news out of Florida is dangerous, but its not altogether surprising. NBC News reported:
Florida Surgeon General Joseph Ladapo said Wednesday that the state will work to eliminate all vaccine mandates. All of them. All of them, he said during a news conference as the crowd stood and erupted in applause. Every last one of them is wrong and drips with disdain and slavery. He said the Florida Department of Health will work in partnership with the governor. He said forcing vaccine mandates is wrong and immoral.
No other state has gone nearly this far.......
But that perspective is mistaken: If Florida moves forward with plans to target all of the states vaccine mandates, not only will children suffer from preventable diseases, but Floridians will start exporting contagions and serious ailments to other Americans and in all likelihood, even to other countries.
In 2021, The Washington Posts Benjy Sarlin noted that it seemed likely that the United States would end up with fewer vaccine requirements in some places than we started with before the pandemic that has killed millions of people around the world.
That mightve sounded ridiculous, but four years later, its an unsettling assessment thats holding up well.
