Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is encouraging schools in his state to implement dedicated time for prayer and the reading of scripture, according to a Sept. 2 press release.
The announcement follows the recent enactment of Senate Bill 11 in Texas on Sept. 1, allowing school boards to adopt policies setting aside time for voluntary prayer and the reading of the Bible or other religious texts, according to the release.
The bill directs the Attorney Generals office to defend any school district or charter school that adopts such a policy, according to the release.

Paxton is squaring off against Sen. John Cornyn in the upcoming Texas Senate primary race......................
There you go again. Ten Commandments for thee, but not for me, eh, Ken? Cornyn said in response to Paxton, in a post on X........................

Leave it to Paxton to bring up religious issues-he is such a con man!!

@KenPaxtonTX
BREAKING: I'm encouraging Texas schools to begin the legal process of putting prayer back in the classroom and recommending the Lord's Prayer for students.
In Texas classrooms, we want the Word of God opened, the Ten Commandments displayed, and prayers lifted up.

Jews, Catholics, Orthodox Christians, non-standard Christian groups, Mormons, all non-christian religions, all secular, atheist and agnostic people.
Paxton is now defining who does not belong in Texas.

(31,521 posts)Paxton's demand that children tackle The Lord's Prayer is particularly vile, somehow. And once again I say: if Paxton makes it into the U.S. Senate, he'll make Ted Cruz seem pleasant, diligent, and moderate by comparison. He's already managed to make John Cornyn seem competent, something I didn't believe was possible.

They keep stepping on this issue but not the energy for gun safety in schools or warning systems for violent weather. And yet..the voters keep voting for these people..

(32,313 posts)We may have been required to have the Christmas story, straight from the New Testament, taught to us then. The little Jewish girl in my class was not forced to participate. In fact, she and her parents taught us all about Hanukah. Her parents invited the teacher to synagogue for a Hanukah event. She went, and told the class about it.
We all learned something, and had fun while learning.

I hope this gets to the Supreme Court. Even this Court would see the obvious constitutional violations.

(3,135 posts)He should have to publicly recite those pesky commandments against adultery and theft each and every day. I am certain most if not all of the ten apply to him. Not sure if he has murdered anyone directly.
