California ad wars heat up ahead of November vote on new congressional maps

California’s redistricting battle has now reached the airwaves, unleashing an advertising blitz that is expected to grow only more urgent – and staggeringly costly – in the post-Labor Day sprint to the November special election.

On Tuesday, groups on both sides of the fight in California launched their first major salvos in the ad wars that are sure to dominate Golden State televisions and devices over the next nine weeks.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom will launch nine ads this week aimed at convincing voters to back new congressional districts drawn to help Democrats win five more seats in the 2026 midterms. Newsom debuted the first of the ads – a pair of 30-second spots – Tuesday, and they will soon appear on televisions and digital platforms all over the state.

To Arnold Schwarzenegger:
Quit trying to screw up efforts Californians need to make to counter the shit in Texas. I applaud your ethics on the topic of gerrymandering, but the time for an actual fix has long past. Your newly forming unholy alliance with Kevin McCarthy and others of his ilk will only make things worse than they are. Quit FAFO'ing and get behind Newsom before our democracy is completely gone. The United States is badly damaged and our wounds are only getting deeper. You need to reflect on your past involvement in this decline and stand up for the people being hurt by the nasty bullies running our government for their own profit. I am not naive enough to say this hasn't always been an issue, but now it's in your face for what could be your very last chance to change it. Quit your stupid shit and get on board.
