Gaza postwar plan envisions voluntary relocation of entire population
The Trump administration and international partners are discussing proposals to build a Riviera of the Middle East on the rubble of Gaza. One would establish U.S. control and pay Palestinians to leave

A postwar plan for Gaza circulating within the Trump administration, modeled on President Donald Trumps vow to take over the enclave, would turn it into a trusteeship administered by the United States for at least 10 years while it is transformed into a gleaming tourism resort and high-tech manufacturing and technology hub.
The 38-page prospectus seen by The Washington Post envisions at least a temporary relocation of all of Gazas more than 2 million population, either through what it calls voluntary departures to another country or into restricted, secured zones inside the enclave during reconstruction.
Those who own land would be offered a digital token by the trust in exchange for rights to redevelop their property, to be used to finance a new life elsewhere or eventually redeemed for an apartment in one of six to eight new AI-powered, smart cities to be built in Gaza. Each Palestinian who chooses to leave would be given a $5,000 cash payment and subsidies to cover four years of rent elsewhere, as well as a year of food.

(104,720 posts)Plainly not the Gazans - "the plan estimates that every individual departure from Gaza would save the trust $23,000, compared with the cost of temporary housing and what it calls life support services in the secure zones for those who stay".
In proper language, a trust is a way to administer something in favour of people who don't have the legal means of doing so effectively - perhaps they're children, or there are too many of them, or it's a charitable cause.
But the stated purpose is to take the land away from the Gazans, as cheaply as possible. So it's there to rip them off. Maybe it's a "trust" for the Trump family. Or for ultra-right settlers from Israel. Or for any property developer without the morals needed to see how evil this would be. An Orwellian trust. "Trust is Theft"?

(19,036 posts)I don't see anything about "exterminating" 2.2 million Gazans or expelling them, where did you get that information?

(1,424 posts)they will become reservations of the Middle East.

(26,974 posts)And just as pitiful. Humans have not come very far at all. Genocide and land theft is still, "Manifest Destiny."
I doubt very many survivors will even make it to reservations. Far cheaper to kill them.

A port in Gaza or logistics hub would provide a more direct route to the West and would allow a bypass of non-signatory Arab nations.
So that's what it was all about. Gaza's location. And gas fields of course. Land theft and theft of resources, at the cost of Palestinian statehood and the death and misery of Palestinians. Western Imperialism at its worst.
But we - and Israel - are the "good guys" right?

(128 posts)The term "evacuation" was used by Reinhard Heydrich at the Wannsee Conference on January 20, 1942 to describe relocating the Jews from Europe.
"Voluntary" relocation is being used in the same manner in relation to the Palestinians in Gaza.
