'Resign!' Fury hits GOP Sen. Lisa Murkowski as she blasts Trump pick she voted to affirm

Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) came under fire on Saturday after she complained about the Trump administration's health moves, which she had earlier voted to affirm. Murkowski made waves over the weekend when she declared "politics" was taking over policy at Trump's Center for Disease Control.
"The firing of CDC Director Susan Monarez just a month after her confirmation, along with the departure of other high-level disease experts the day after her termination, raises considerable questions about what is happening within the agency," she wrote on X. "Americans must be able to fully trust that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention rigorously adheres to science-based and data-driven principles when issuing policy directives."
The outrage came for Murkowski instantly.
Republicans against Trump said, "You knew hes an anti-vaxxer crank and still voted for him. This is on you." In a separate post, the group added, "Reminder: Murkowski voted to confirm RFK Jr." Marcus Jackson, an engineer, wrote, "You voted for this idiotic government. Resign already."

(1) express outrage for the bill/the nominee
(2) vote for the bill/confirm the nominee
(3) hide from the press to avoid accountability
(4) express outrage for the bill she voted for/the incompetent idiot she voted to confirm

It's not just the responsibility of people with less power to correct wrongs. It's everybody's responsibility.

Let me throw out some names here: Kristi Noem, Tulsi Gabbard, Kash Patel, John Ratcliffe you confirmed them all. They, in their vast know-nothingness, chose Thomas Fugate, a 22-year-old recent graduate, to head the office overseeing the governments main hub for terrorism prevention, including an $18 million grant program intended to help communities combat violent extremism. President Pedo and co-president Musk via DOGE cut this incompetents staff my 80%. These are the people who could have or should have known of the online threats by the Minneapolis church shooter. Thats what was promisedcooperation, coordination, and shared knowledge when George W. Bush established the Department of Homeland Security. If they had been doing their job, they could have intervened BEFORE he killed 2 and injured 18. We would not, as a nation, be encouraged to pray unceasingly to remedy such vile acts. If prayer worked, Im sure those praying parents who sent their children off to school would have negated the threat. These folks, who obviously were selected for their incompetence, were placed in those positions by you, with your spineless endorsements and confirmations. You have blood on your hands. We've had Do Nothing congresses before, but the Do Nothing FBI is something wholly created by President Pedo. Now the FBI have been known to sometimes be incompetent and useless but doing nothing is a special Trump feature. They are too busy hunting sandwich hurlers and sifting through the Epstein files. This isn't incompetence. It's not inexperience or even insanity. It is all being done deliberately. It's being supported deliberately. Every one of us is on the slaughterhouse conveyor belt. You hear the machinery working up ahead. You hear the screams. You know keeping your head down isn't going to save it from the blade. STOP THE CONVEYOR BELT! Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Are you trying to tell us you REALLY didn't see any of this coming when you voted to CONFIRM RFK Jr, aka Bobby Brainworm? Seriously?
Seems to me your anger is misdirected here. You should be furiously angry all right... at the one who selected him for that job as well as all of those who voted to confirm him. Including YOU, YOURSELF, you freaking hypocrite!
P.S. I think Ms. Murkowski is practicing a defense mechanism known as displacement here. I suspect she does regret that confirmation vote but is lashing out at the moron she helped confirm rather than owning up to her mistake and apologizing to the American people. Not a good look, to say the very least!

(21,607 posts)Every state has different laws about whether state and local officials can be recalled, and many states don't have recalls at all. Members of Congress (Representatives and Senators are a whole different story. Since this keeps coming up from time to time, here are the facts:

(9,388 posts)Things may not be quite that bleak! According to Wikipedia, she's up for reelection next year. If that's accurate, it would be very good news!
Senatorial terms are very confusing to keep track of, imo. They serve 6 year terms, and their terms are staggered so that every 2 years a third of them go up for reelection. For example, I know one of my senators, Dick Durbin, would be up for reelection next year but has already announced that he's retiring after this term, which means whoever replaces him will be due to run again in 2032. But until I looked it up just now, I couldn't have told you that my other senator, Tammy Duckworth) will come up for reelection in 2028.
