Noem terminates 24 FEMA workers for failing to address cyber vulnerabilities

Source: NextGov

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem is terminating two dozen members in the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s IT department after the DHS agency said the employees failed basic security protocols that allowed hackers to access its networks.

Noem’s office said agency Chief Information Officer Charles Armstrong and Chief Information Security Officer Gregory Edwards were terminated, alongside 22 others. They could not be immediately reached for comment.

A routine cybersecurity review of FEMA’s systems uncovered the vulnerability, DHS said in a statement, which added that the vulnerability was addressed before any sensitive data could be pilfered from its systems.

The review “uncovered several severe lapses in security that allowed the threat actor to breach FEMA’s network and threaten the entire department and the nation as a whole,” DHS said.

How long have the vulnerability been known about, and what was the severity. How long ago and who installed the systems that had the vulnerabilities. What was the real reason for firing 22 people.

Tin foil hat time. They ran across one of Corey Lewandowski grifts.

Letting DOGE run amok probably increased hacking opportunities across the government.

US Homeland Security chief reports breach at FEMA, fires 23 employees

DHS did not immediately respond to a message seeking further clarity on what happened.

Noem devoted nine paragraphs of her statement about the breach to attacks on FEMA's IT staff, accusing them of "failure," "neglect," "incompetence" and dishonesty. She said 23 of them had been fired. Reuters could not immediately verify her claims.

News of the FEMA breach - and the mass firing purportedly connected to it - follows an open letter of dissent against the agency's leadership signed by scores of current and former FEMA employees. The letter warned Congress that the inexperience of top appointees of President Donald Trump's administration could lead to a catastrophe on the level of Hurricane Katrina, which ravaged the Gulf Coast of the United States 20 years ago.

FEMA will be remade in the image of Trump. Who gets aid will depend on their loyalty to Trump. Only Republican states need apply.

DOGE was forced on us as an illegitimate government office to strip us of all our privacy information, and destroy the government from the inside out. Script kiddies run amok. And one of the absolute worst offenders of "vulnerabilities" is trump, himself. One of the probably least noticeable, least important as the whole realm of crises evolves, is the scapegoating of innocent employees for the sin and crimes of their bosses.
