MADISON Ahead of Vice President JD Vance's visit to western Wisconsin to tout the Trump administration's One Big Beautiful Bill, Gov. Tony Evers' administration released a new analysis estimating the sweeping tax and spending law will cost the state $284 million over the span of its implementation.
The broad domestic policy and budget bill has provisions that will take effect over time, reaching full implementation in 2028. The bulk of the costs in the administration's estimates are tied to the law's new work requirements for participation in FoodShare and Medicaid implementing employment and training services and hiring additional quality control staff to ensure the state is not penalized for payment errors and its shifting of costs usually covered by the federal government to the states.
................
Ive been clear from the get-go that Republicans so-called big beautiful bill is bad for Wisconsin," Evers said. "And now, its also clear this bill is just as bad for Wisconsin taxpayers, who will be forced to help foot the bill for Republicans red-tape requirements just to make it harder for folks to get the care they need and food to eat."
................
The analysis, conducted by the state Department of Health Services, shows that as many as 43,700 Wisconsinites could lose access to food assistance under the One Big Beautiful Bill.
