FBI Director Kash Patel said the shooter was “a male” born under a different first name.

The suspect's parent had filed for a legal name change to "Robin M Westman" in Dakota County in November 2019. The application was granted in January 2020, when Westman was 17, after a hearing.

I am so sad for the victims and their families.
But also for the shooter--she obviously had some psychological problems that needed to be addressed, but sadly it is too late for that now. I lived in Mpls for many years by the lakes with wonderful people.

8. Hatred breeds hatred

If there was no longer any compassion left in this world or desire to understand even things that we see as simply evil then where do we go from here. Hatred, isolation, bullying, intolerance doesn't exist in a vacuum. Was this person born with this evil purpose or did they become so twisted and broken over time and through unimaginable suffering and rejection from others.

There are no easy answers. If we just dismiss all that is wrong as being evil without seeking to understand what created or drove the person into such a psychotic rage then how do we learn to stop perpetuating that in a world that sometimes seems like it is churning out broken people who feel the need to violently lash out

Why is it that our society, our country is the home of so many people who end up on this path that results in broken people wanting to find ways to inflict unimaginable pain and suffering

If we cannot find a way to learn to live together with love, tolerance, acceptance and we keep escalating our divisions whether they be religious, political, biological, geographical, cultural and we push away those different from us, by dehumanizing them, building walls, fighting wars, hurling insults and generating hate where love might have built bridges instead then I guess we are reaping as a society what we have sewn

Ask yourselves what drives people to do these kinds of things, are they born evil was this fate or did they somehow walk a path that only showed them hatred, pain, intolerance, until they became broken

It's not simple to look at what some people only see as evil and find even a tiny bit of compassion but what happened here was a tragedy for all involved and yes even for the shooter their peers, her family as well as the victims and their families, the church the larger community and our country

6. Sad for the shooter? No. She murdered two children, and tried to murder many more.

Westman wrote numerous things on the weapons and magazines featured in the video, including racial slurs, a call for President Donald Trump's death, antisemitic messages and references to the Holocaust and the Catholic Church, according to an NBC review.

She was a raving psychopath and bigot, if that's what you mean by "some psychological problems that needed to be addressed".

"My heart bleeds for him, as a child. Someone took a kid and manufactured a monster. At the same time, as an adult, he's irredeemable. He butchers whole families to pursue trivial fantasies... As an adult, someone should blow the sick fuck out of his socks." - Will Graham, 'Red Dragon'.

12. No sympathy for the shooter...

...but sympathy for their parents.

I've lost a child - there is no pain like it, no matter how it happens. You love your kids, even when they do something that is abhorrent to you.

So to not only lose their child and feel that pain, but to know that the child inflicted that pain on other families? I'm not sure how anyone gets through that.

13. Quote where he suggests Republican Brandon Herrera be president

Quote from first 2 minutes of Robin Westman's 11 minute Video manifesto.

“Brandon Herrera for president, um, yeah I met Brandon Herrera at Shot Show last year. He and I had a conversation a brief conversation but like agreed on a lot of things so y'all should vote for Brandon Herrera for president. (flashes thumb to index finger white power sign twice) and uh vintage warfare promotes love and peace and accepting differences.”

Herrera Brandon Joseph Herrera (born November 20, 1995), also known as The AK Guy, is an American YouTuber and firearm manufacturer whose videos primarily focus on firearms. Herrera was a Republican candidate in the race to represent Texas's 23rd congressional district in 2024, but lost by approximately 1 percentage point to incumbent Tony Gonzales in the Republican primary runoff. On August 9, 2025, Herrera announced his decision to again run for the seat in an election that will be held in 2026.

The quick "ok" sign after he says to vote for Brandon Herrera for president is the White Power sign (fingers 2-3-4 are the "W" and the thumb and index finger and arm form the "P". Racist right wing republicans flash this all the time as their secret code.
