Denmark summons top US diplomat over alleged Greenland influence operation
Source: BBC
Danish Foreign Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen has summoned the top US diplomat in Copenhagen, following a report that American citizens have been conducting "covert influence operations" in Greenland.
Denmark's public broadcaster DR quoted sources as saying the aim was to infiltrate Greenland's society and promote its secession from Denmark to the US, although it was unable to clarify whether the men were working on their own.

The earlier May report in the Wall Street Journal also referred to learning more about Greenland's independence movement, as well as attitudes to American mineral extraction.
At the time, US Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard did not deny the report but accused the Journal of "breaking the law and undermining our nation's security and democracy".

The broadcaster said it knew the names of the three American men involved in the operations, but chose not to publish them to protect sources. It said they were previously known to be close to Trump, but it was not immediately clear if they worked on the White Houses order or on their own.
It alleged that one of the men visited Greenland to attend meetings and compile a list of potential allies and opponents of Donald Trumps plans to take over the territory.
He also allegedly urged Greenlanders to point out cases that could be used to put Denmark in a bad light in American media, DR said.

The list will consist of Greenlanders that the American will try to recruit to a secessionist movement across Greenland and Denmark.
The man is one of at least three Americans with connections to Donald Trump who carry out covert influence operations in Greenland.
This is the assessment of key government and authority sources as well as sources in Greenland and the United States, with whom DR has held several meetings since the inauguration of Donald Trump as president in January this year.
It is the sources themselves who use words such as "infiltration" and "influence operations" and who assess that the goal of the operations is to penetrate Greenlandic society in order to weaken relations with Denmark from within and make the Greenlanders subjugate the United States.
Stirring up secessionist movements in your NATO allies. Nice.

The US vice president has taken a growing interest in Reform UK in recent months, with reports from July saying he had asked the UKs ambassador to the US, Peter Mandelson: So whats going on with Reform? I see that theyre doing very well.
Mr Farage has always had a strong relationship with President Donald Trump although it appears to have cooled this year, initially sparking speculation he may not end up meeting with Mr Vance.

BREAKING: Denmark just summoned the top U.S. diplomat after revelations that Trump-linked Americans ran covert ops in Greenland.
Theyre accused of compiling lists of pro- and anti-Trump Greenlanders, cultivating local politicians, and pushing narratives to weaken ties with Denmark, all to advance Trumps fixation on Greenland.
Denmark calls it unacceptable interference. NATO allies now see Trumps obsessions as a direct threat to trust and stability.

A White House official would not confirm an influence campaign was underway, but said: "We think the Danes need to calm down."
Foreign Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen said "any attempt to interfere in the internal affairs of the Kingdom [of Denmark] will of course be unacceptable".
