Drone technology that assists responders to school shootings is set to be trialed in Florida. The Campus Guardian Angel is a Texas-based system that while supporting the police and other responders. A trial will be rolled out in three Florida school districts after approval from Governor Ron DeSantis. Newsweek contacted the governor's office for more information on the policy via email for this story.
Drones Can Be Deployed Within Five Seconds
With more than 60 school shooting incidents reported in Florida alone since 2018, according to the K-12 School Shooting Database, educators and lawmakers have urgently sought innovative approaches to school safety. The introduction of attack drones, designed to respond to active shooter threats in seconds, aims to address the crucial window in which most fatalities occur and could represent a major shift in school security across the U.S.
Campus Guardian Angel CEO Justin Marston told Newsweek that the drones were equipped with pepper rounds plus a glass breaker, allowing them to quickly navigate inside and outside classrooms.
"We feed live video to police, show exactly what's happening, where the suspect is, and even smash through windows with a glass punch to create distractions. This tactic, like during the SAS's famous hostage rescue [at the Iranian Embassy in London], can give officers a huge advantage," Marston said.

Instead of reasoned gun control, you now consider a school to be a "war zone".

Don't deploy these devices to my grandchildren's schools until 99.99% of the bugs are worked out...

(3,819 posts)A drone over a schoolyard is going to have every mischievous kid finding the nearest rocks to throw at it.
And I'll even narrow that down. I hope this isn't considered sexist but I'm going to say mischievous boys, and I'm a boy and I was extremely mischievous in school so I speak from experience.
Anyway, I'm sure it's a felony to aim and throw a projectile at a police vehicle so they can round up all those kids almost instantly, get them into the juvenile courts, and from then on easy sailing to getting them in prison later and have them making all these MADE IN AMERICA things that there will never be enough factories and paid workers to .make.

(8,839 posts)Because if anyone thinks those drones are just going to sit in a dock until they are 'needed', well, I want whatever they are smoking.
Those things are going to be on station every day, constantly watching over the kids who are outside, whether they are doing anything or not. They will be spying on the teachers mostly, to make sure they are not doing 'woke' things like paying attention to the kids, listening to them and their problems, and trying to help them with their learning.
Isn't it amazing that the teacher in 'The Wall' is exactly the kind of teacher that these rethugs seem to want these days. I seem to remember that things did not end well for said teacher, and they will not end well for those who want to interject their fascist ideology into our educational system. The rethugs don't seem to remember this. Or they just don't care.

(6,465 posts)Weapons of War should NEVER be used on civilians... and I say especially in the country that made the damned things in the first place! This is all kinds of tragedy just waiting to happen. If I had a kid in school, I'd be taking her out right now and homeschooling, and I DO believe in Public Education.... just not while there are pedophile and life killing republicans around. Gods, do you remember when the repugs used to call themselves the party of family values... the party of life? Dog damn them!
