Trump tariffs and green energy rollbacks push household electricity bills up 10%

Household electricity bills have increased by 10% since Donald Trump re-entered the White House, a new report has found, with its authors highlighting the impact of the presidents datacenter boosterism and cuts to clean energy projects as part of the cause. The analysis comes as the US energy secretary, Chris Wright, said he knows rising energy prices could be a political challenge for the GOP ahead of next years midterm elections, but claimed Democrats were to blame for the cost increases.
The momentum of the Obama-Biden policies, for sure that destruction is going to continue in the coming years, he told Politico in an interview published on Tuesday. That momentum is pushing prices up right now. And whos going to get blamed for it? Were going to get blamed because were in office.
Trump has repeatedly promised to lower utility bills. And in his Politico interview, Wright insisted that the Trump administrations war on renewable energy is not inflating electricity costs.
But studies have found that Trumps pro-fossil fuel, anti-renewable energy policies will raise prices. A July report from climate thinktank Energy Innovation, for instance, found that the Republicans spending megabill that the president signed last month could increase wholesale electricity prices by as much as 74%, largely due to its repeal of many Biden-era green energy incentives.

(57,817 posts)Here's how RepubliConners will play the con:
1. It won't cost you.
2. It's costing a tiny bit for a little time.
3. It's costing more but short time.
4. It costs a bunch and it will be a while but it's worth it. USA! USA! USA!
5. It's Obama's fault that the economy cratered.

(327 posts)Reagan's "Trickle Down Economics"...........(actually HWBush and Cheney, Reagan was a mere puppet or front man)
Their "Economics" is still haunting us from the graves of Reagan and HW, Cheney will be joining them in the near future.....
The money is not trickling down, the Corporations are using their grossly inflated profits to finance huge stock buy-backs, which only benefits their wealthy stockholders by increasing the value of their stocks....

(11,997 posts)Electricity costs were coming down and actually seemed reasonable until last month. The bill was really high. Now full disclosure it was the hottest month ever recorded in East TN. You know global warming waits for no pedo dictator.
So, yeah I ran my AC more than ever before. I know for a fact it was my highest bill ever because the electric company provides a neat little chart on your costs for over a 3 year period. And it gives you the amount of electricity you used. So, doing some quick math, my cost per kilowatt-hour had gone up by 44%. Thanks pedo Trump.

(16,755 posts)I actually did a double take when I saw the bill. I've been in my condo for 13 years and it has never been this high. I'm the only one who lives here and my habits haven't changed one bit. Granted, as you said, this was a hotter than normal summer, but I like it a bit warm inside so when I do use air conditioning, it's set fairly high.
