MSNBC will become MS NOW, lose peacock logo before Comcast spinoff

Source: Reuters

Aug 18 (Reuters) - Cable news network MSNBC will change its name and drop the iconic peacock logo as parent Comcast (CMCSA.O) presses ahead with the planned separation of many NBCUniversal cable networks later this year.
The left-leaning media company will rename to My Source News Opinion World, or MS NOW, according to internal memos seen by Reuters on Monday.

Comcast plans to spin off its cable channels, including USA Network, CNBC and MSNBC, into a new company called Versant — a significant shift in its media strategy as the company repositions itself for growth in the streaming era. Comcast intends to retain the peacock logo, along with brands such as the NBC broadcast network and its film and television studios that are expected to fuel growth for its Peacock streaming service.

To break their brand recognition and sow confusion.
This is a clear attempt to scuttle the brand.

Comcast is effectively divesting itself of these cable brands. I'm sure Comcast will be hurrying to sell off Versant as soon as it can or simply giving all existing shareholders of Comcast shares in Versant to get it off the books..

There's precedent for this... Comcast has Sky News in Europe. Murdoch has Sky News in Australia. Unless the Murdochs have some kind of power over the Sky TV brand, it should have been possible to switch to this established brand.

Just my tuppence worth....

Sky News UK (and International) is most certainly not. They're on par with the BBC when it comes to bias and factual reporting.

Sky News Australia skews right and is not known for its factual reporting.

Some of these media fact bias checkers themselves seem to me to have a hard time with differentiating between center-left and center- right. mediabiasfactcheck.com ranks these UK news programmes - ITV News as center-right, Channel 4 News as center-left. The problem with this is that both news programmes are produced by the same company - Independent Television News, or ITN. I find it hard to believe a news organisation can be both right and left wing at the same time.
