DOJ to begin sharing Epstein files with Congress on Friday, House member says

The chairman of a key House committee said Monday that the Justice Department told him it would begin sharing records related to the investigation of deceased sex offender and financier Jeffrey Epstein by the end of the week.
Rep. James Comer (R-Kentucky) said in a statement that the department will begin to provide Epstein-related records that a House Oversight subcommittee subpoenaed on Friday.
There are many records in DOJs custody, and it will take the Department time to produce all the records and ensure the identification of victims and any child sexual abuse material are redacted, Comer said. I appreciate the Trump Administrations commitment to transparency and efforts to provide the American people with information about this matter.
A spokesperson for the department did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

(1,497 posts)Also, I know it's lurid and disturbing content, but if "any child sexual abuse material are redacted", what exactly does that leave? Will congress get to see things like what was in Epstein's fridge the day he was arrested?
Demanding 'the files' from THIS DoJ has always struck me as a (politically) dicey idea for Democrats. It'll NEVER be the real, original files. The books will be cooked, and there's a decent chance we'll end up collectively looking foolish when there's 0 mention of Trump anywhere in them, nor of any 'pedophile ring of the rich and powerful'. All blame will be put entirely on the dead guy in whatever version of 'the files' this DoJ decides to share with Congress.
And more importantly, no 'justice' for any victim will come out of the process.

(8,440 posts)IMO that is far more sensitive for TACO and the others because it links them in ways that the photos and testimony do not. I suspect the money network also leads to places all of them would rather no one found out about. Money laundering on that scale is illegal in many jurisdictions with international implications, and consequences.

(38,627 posts)The Treasury Dept holds on to those wire transfer records, showing how and where Epstein laundered $ billions for his extremely wealthy "friends." We know for a fact that many transactions were with Russian banks, that are notoriously uncooperative.
