Texas Republicans Set to Resume Push for Redrawn US House Maps

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Texas Republicans on Monday aimed to resume pushing through redrawn U.S. House district maps that would carve out a bigger GOP advantage in the 2026 midterm elections after state Democrats indicated they were ready to end a two-week walkout.

In response, California Democrats are also moving ahead with their own reshaping of congressional districts to counteract Texas, putting in motion a potentially widening and unusually timed redistricting battle nationwide.

The redrawing began in Texas but has been stalled since dozens of Democrats, who are the minority in each chamber, left the state on Aug. 3, with most of them going to Illinois. The absent lawmakers had signaled they were ready return to Austin after Republican Gov. Greg Abbott ended a first special session and California moved forward with its own plan.

The Texas House was scheduled to try convening a quorum again Monday.

Trump can imprison them for little or no reason. They think he supports their agenda, without realizing he wants to be an absolute ruler.

The Texas GOP is totally corrupt. The job only pays about $600 per moth when not in session and they only meet every other year.
I believe that the real impetus is they are afraid of a Democratic victory would possibly lead to an investigation of their whole v corrupt operation. When they appeached Paxton Tim Dunn just threatened them with a primary and they state senate folded. Now ask yourself would you put up with threats and abuse for a $4 an hour job?. The real tell is the last vote of the senate before the end of the regular session was to not audit the $ 11 billion dollars Abbott spent on "immigration" stunts like paying hundreds of highway patrol to do nothing on the border hiring charter planes, and $2000 bus tickets. I live next to the fence and this part of the border has been very secure for many years. This is the safest place I have lived in my whole adult life. Even the Texas Department of Transportation has become a bad joke. They don't even pretend anymore. The contractors just put up barricades, but often do very little for months on end. The oil revenue is tiny for the state budget ( about 3 percent of what they get from the federal goernmment) but they can tell them what to do. The crypto business is also here and the dollars are enormous. Also huge data centers using up huge amounts of electricty and getting paid if the have to be interrupted. The corruption is endless.
